Shaw Praises 'Magnificent' Fans
Preston North End Club Chairman Derek Shaw took time out after the thrilling Burnley victory to pay tribute to the fantastic away following at Turf Moor. The Club's fans could have been forgiven for feeling sorry for themselves in the circumstances but they gave their all and the players responded in kind.
"I'm so pleased for the supporters today," said the Chairman.
"I think the away support has been magnificent all season and this is the first away win of the season. I'm very pleased for the manager, a lot of things we have worked on have come off today. I'm also very pleased for Neil Mellor who got a start and I thought he was magnificent.
"Let's just hope that that result and performance is a sign of things to come."
North End had sold 1100 tickets prior to Saturday but the opportunity to pay on the turnstile at Turf Moor swelled the away crowd and they shouted and screamed themselves hoarse throughout an action-packed 90 minutes.
Shaw said: "The North End fans were absolutely terrific, we were all down last week after losing to Blackpool but I thought we came back today and I thought we deserved it.
"I've listened to the radio coming home and there have been a lot of Burnley fans complaining about the referee's decisions but I felt that the two red cards were perfectly correct, I also thought that Burnley got their first goal from a harsh decision at the other end of the field where we could have perhaps gone on and took the lead.
"We've had more than enough poor decisions going against us this year and it was just magnificent to win away from home. I'm sure a lot of people who travel away from home are so pleased to get an away win, hopefully now we can build on it.
"We've had a double, the fans team won as well, so it's a great day for us."
