Shaw: We've Given Great Support

Posted on: Fri 01 Feb 2008

Despite working tirelessly into the dying hours of Thursday, both the Manager and Chairman failed to secure any further additions to the North End  playing squad.

After pressing on a couple of potential targets in final day of business, unfortunately nothing materialised, meaning that a total of four players moved to Deepdale in the window.

However, the Chairman did express that there is the option to recruit further when the emergency loan market reopens in a week's time.

In total North End spent over £2m in the January market, bringing Richard Chaplow, Chris Brown, Neal Trotman and Michael Hart to Deepdale. A further £350,000 was recouped in the sale of Patrick Agyemang to Queens Park Rangers, whilst Danny Pugh joined Stoke City permanently after an initial loan period.

Adam Nowland's contract was ended by mutual condent, Jason Jarrett has moved to Boundary Park until the end of the season with Andy Carroll and Paul Gallagher also returning to their parent clubs after the completion of their loan deals.

Speaking exclusively to PNE.Com, Shaw said: "There were a couple of things on Thursday which didn't quite come off. One deal we pulled out of and there was another in which we couldn't agree personal terms with the player.

"We tried to do permanent deals but we couldn't get anything sorted, such is life, we've not done too badly and we are extremely pleased with the players that we have brought in.

"We go with the four that we have signed and there's always the emergency loan market if we feel that we need it. We will continue to monitor everything and I'll work with the Manager when he approaches me with more targets.

"We've upped the numbers and given the Manager great support, which I know he is grateful for."
