Davidson: We Owe Them One

Posted on: Mon 10 Mar 2008

Callum Davidson is keen to even the score against Wolves on Tuesday night following the 1-0 defeat at Molineux back at the start of December.

The Scottish international believes North End were extremely unfortunate to fall to defeat in the first meeting of the sides and are now in a great position to put matters right following the Lilywhites recent run of good results.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday night's clash, the Preston number three said: "It's still fresh in my memory so we sort of owe them one for that game. 0-0 would have been a fair result because we played quite well in that game only to be killed by the sucker punch.

"These next two games, we feel that we owe these teams one so we are going to go and try to put one over on them.

"It's going to be a tough tough game, we've watched the video today and they are a good team. There's not a lot of difference between the teams in this league, all games are hard and this one will be no different.

"I expect them to knock it pretty direct but once they get into the final third, they will play a bit of football because they have got a lot of good players.

"They have got big Kevin up front and Ebanks-Blake has been banging the goals in this season but we have just got to make sure that we go at them and cause problems."

Callum returned to the starting XI at the Valley after sitting out the previous two matches through suspension. Matt Hill took command of the left-back berth against Crystal Palace and Leicester and understandably the Scot was chuffed to get the nod against the Addicks.

The 31-year-old explained: "Obviously I was delighted to get straight back in, it was a difficult choice for the Manager to make but it gave me a lot of confidence and a little boost. The team played well and most importantly we got three points.

"You look at the Charlton game and beforehand you expect it to be a tough game and that you'll be lucky to come away with a point. A lot of teams around us would have thought that too and it's probably a blow to them to see us winning down there.

"It's an endless run at the moment, it's tough on the lads and Wolves didn't have a game on Saturday so they will be a bit fresher. But we know how important this game is and we've got to be fully focused."

North End currently reside in 17th spot in the Championship table, the highest position that the Club have occupied since the first game of the season.

Davidson admitted that over the past couple of days the league standings have made fonder reading, but it is important that the players don't relax following the success over the last week.

The versatile stalwart added: "It gives you a boost to look at the table because I hated looking at the table when we were in the bottom three. We've got to make sure that we don't go back there and now that we have got ourselves in this position it's important that we don't take our foot of the accelerator and we just keep going and win as many games as possible.

"It's amazing what a couple of wins does for you. After the Crystal Palace game it was like the end of the world but then to go to Leicester and Charlton and pick up six points is a massive confidence boost - the lads are a lot happier.

"From Blackpool downwards, everyone is fighting this relegation battle and even though a few teams have a game in hand, the bottom twelve sides are in it and it is probably going to go all the way to the end of the season."
