PNE enjoyed the double delight of victories over Burnley at both first team and 'Fans Team' level on Saturday, after the Club's supporters secured a 3-2 victory over their keen rivals to equal the 2-1 success of the first team on the same day.
Jason Dodwell was in inspired form for Preston in a game played in a great sprit, even though both sides 'wanted the win badly', according to home boss Steve Cowell. Preston were first out of the traps, racing into a 2-0 lead, but the visitors reduced the arrears just before half-time, and with the wind advantage in their favour in the second half must have really fancied their chances.
Cowell was aware of this, and felt his team needed to keep possession more in the second half to try and take the pressure off the defence. They did just that, and their third and vital goal came midway though the second half. Burnley put in a spirited last 15 minutes and managed to reduce the arrears once again but the Preston team managed to hang on and like the first team did the double over their near neighbours for the season.
The Preston Fans Team are home again this Saturday when they play host to Sheffield United - one of few sides to have beaten them this season. No doubt the boys will be looking for revenge and hopefully secure the points that aid their bid for a spot in the end of season Play-Offs.
