All Quiet On The Transfer Front

Posted on: Thu 27 Mar 2008

It's been a quiet day on the transfer front in the offices of Deepdale as Preston North End boss Alan Irvine, as expected, stuck with the status quo.

Irvine had given strong hints during the week that he was happy to continue with his current group of players and that's the case after the 5pm deadline on emergency loans passed without incident.

"I never expected to do anything," Irvine told pne.com.

"It's never really been my intention, I said all along that I wanted to have players here who knew what it meant to stay in this division and knew how important it was.

"My hand was forced a little bit with the strikers situation and I've been delighted with what has happened with that. But it was never my intention and I've not been making loads of phone calls."

North End still have Hungarian striker Tamas Priskin on loan from Watford, his deal expires after the match at QPR's Loftus Road next weekend, but Football League rules allow for an extension to that deal if all parties agree, even though the transfer window is now closed.

Irvine said: "It was only a month and we will assess the situation once the month is up. It has been good that Tamas has been here, he has done a good job for us and we appreciate what he has done.

"I've not even discussed it with Tamas, I've not discussed it with Aidy Boothroyd and until we get to that point I don't really need to make a decision."

You can watch an extended interview with Alan Irvine as he looks ahead to this Saturday's match against Sheffield United exclusively on Whites World.
