Beattie: It's Been Very Frustrating

Posted on: Mon 21 Apr 2008

Craig Beattie was back down at Springfields on Monday morning after linking-up again with his Preston North End team-mates.

The 24-year-old West Brom loanee had been expected to miss the remainder of the season having picked up a hamstring tear only 37 minutes into his Lilywhites' debut at Leicester City at the beginning of March.

It was announced that the striker had returned to the Hawthorns to receive treatment on the injury, but Beattie has made a rapid return to fitness and is now looking to play a role in Preston's final two fixtures against Ipswich Town and Bristol City.

Before heading out to train with his colleagues, the Scottish international spoke to PNE.Com about his recovery process.

He said: "I'd gone back down to get my rehab done and it was decided that once I get fit we would reassess the situation. Fortunately I've managed to do so in six weeks.

"It was a case of resting it to start with and making sure it was okay before I had to move on to my fitness and strengthening work.

"It's been very frustrating to say the least. I've got injured in my first game and I've had to get fit again, but there's two games left and hopefully I will play a part in them.

"I was obviously not playing as regularly as I'd have liked at West Brom so I took the opportunity to come here and play some games and hopefully help Preston achieve what they have done.

"When I joined the team was second from bottom, then I got injured and since then I have been sitting in the house and looking at their results wishing I could help them.

"The boys have worked hard, got themselves safe so it is great news for everybody involved at the club."

Beattie also explained that he had no qualms in coming back to Lancashire for the final fortnight of the Championship season and getting some footballing action instead of opting to stay in the Black Country where West Brom are now only one victory away from promotion to the Premiership.

He said: "I phoned the manager yesterday to make sure it was okay and he was delighted to have me back up and I was certainly delighted to come back here.

"It's always frustrating when you are not playing, especially the fact that I could have been playing here but I got injured. I've obviously been keeping my eye on both results and working daily with the West Brom physios.

"I just want to get some games, score some goals and fingers crossed that will happen. I'll probably not start at the weekend but I'm hoping to play some part and then after the Bristol City match, you never know."
