1655: It's all over for North End. Burnley fans celebrate around me as the referee blows his final whistle to signal defeat for Alan Irvine's men.

90 min +4: Goal!! Burnley hit North End on the counter and wrap the game up. It's Chris Eagles who runs towards goal unchallenged all the way from the half-way line and from 12-yards out he slams the ball home.

90 min +3: North End are desperately trying to get the eqauliser, they've got every man forward in the Burnley half but they just can't carve out a decent opportunity.

90 min: There's going to be four minutes of stoppage time here at Turf Moor.

88 min: Another handball claim, this time at the Burnley end of the field, the referee once again denies the claim.

83 min: The game has become something of a chess match as Burnley try and use their numerical advantage to put the game to bed. Preston meanwhile have to find some means of getting back in the match. The challenges are flying in which shows just how desperate both teams are for the points. Nicholson and Mellor both pick up yellow cards for late challenges on Burnley sub Chris Eagles.

72 min: A real opportunity for Burnley to finish the game off. Another handball claim in the box is waved away by the referee but the ball comes across again and Steve Thompson should have done a lot better from four yards out, credit to Lonergan for his save low down.

70 min: Disaster for North End as Callum Davidson is sent-off for deliberate hand-ball. It came after Preston had hit a sloppy ball across the face of the pitch and Wade Elliott pounced, he looked to dink the ball past Davidson but the Scot stuck his arm out. Elliott might have been clean though on goal so the referee's interpretation is that it was a clear goalscoring opportunity.

69 min: A real scramble in the Burnley area, the ball is lobbed in and it looks like the ball struck a Burnley arm as Mellor went up for a header. A really strong shout but the referee doesn't want to know.

68 min: North End surge back looking for an equaliser. Callum Davidson goes on a barnstorming run that almost finishes with Clark Carlisle toe-poking the ball past his own keeper.

64 min: Goal for Burnley! The Clarets take the lead. Graham Alexnader knocked a free-kick into the PNE box and Preston born Clark Carlisle climbed highest to power a header across goal. Steven Caldwell was unmarked six yards out and he smashed the ball.

63 min: The games gone a little flat at the moment. The North End fans are amusing themselves with songs about Blackpool Tower.

59 min: Nicholson almost doubles his tally with a snap shot from the edge of the area. Mellor and Brown had combined well to set-up the opportunity but Jensen was well placed to save the effort which was hit straight down the middle.

53 min: After scoring one from 30-yards, Gudjonsson attempts an effort from 70-yards. In fairness it was a clearance but the wind got hold of it and it flew downfield, it was off-target but would have certainly have tested Lonergan if it was on target.

51 min: Brown's already had an impact and looks desperate to be involved in every move.

46 min: North End make a change in the second half and it sees Chris Brown coming on for Jon Parkin in a like-for-like swap.

1555: It's half-time here. The cheerleaders are out on the pitch and Stuart Hall is waxing lyrical behind me.

45 min +3: Burnley take the corner but it's North End who launch the attack up the other end of the field. Mellor chasing the ball down the field, he gets the ball to the Burnley box and then sends it across the face of goal, towards Nicholson who arrives a little too late to make a connection.

45 min +2: Wade Elliott hits a cross but he seems to have sliced it and it's heading towards goal before Lonergan is forced to tip the ball over at the very last moment. Great save from a freakish effort.

45 min +1: North End concede a free-kick in a very dangerous area, it's 20-yards out but that's just a tap-in if Gudjonsson's previous effort is anything to go by. The Icelandic midfielder steps up and hits it, fortunately for PNE, straight into the wall.

41 min: Steve Thompson almost grabs a goal as Burnley enjoy their best spell. Michael Duff's ball in was aimed towards the back post and there was a bit of a miss-match in terms of height with Thompson towering over Paul McKenna. Thompson's header looked as if it could have crept in to the top corner but a flying save from Andy Lonergan denied them the goal.

38 min: Graham Alexander strikes an effort. In the olden days Tom Parker would say 'this is Graham Alexander territory'. It was a low sliding effort, Lonergan was scrambling across goal but it always looked to be going wide.

33 min: And it's a knockout for Burnley!!! A goal from nothing for the Clarets. Joey Gudjonsson picked up the ball from the free-kick as it was hit short and the Icelandic midfielder hit one from 30-yards out, a cracking strike and Lonergan had no chance as it looped over his head and into the back of the net.

29 min: North End are going to have to make a change. Michael Hart went in for a challenge which looked rather harmless, the ref gave a free-kick to Burnley but Hart it was who stayed down. Closer attention from the physio and he called for the stretcher. So Callum Davidson gets an earlier than anticipated introduction to the match. Just as I'm typing this the legend that is Stuart Hall taps me on the shoulder to ask who the injured man is! It's a knockout!

28 min: The North End fans are in fine voice this afternoon, plenty of songs about Blackpool being sung currently.

22 min: Goal for Preston North End!!! Barry Nicholson gets his first away goal for Preston with a sweetly hit volley from 12-yards out. It came after great work from Sedgwick on the left flank, he jinked his way to the touchline and delivered a great ball with his left peg, the ball was headed clear but only to Nicholson who couldn't have hit it more perfectly.

13 min: We've got two beasts on the pitch this afternoon. Burnley's goalkeeper Brian Jensen is affectionately known as The Beast, as is North End's Jon Parkin. Which beast will be tamed?

10 min: Burnley have another half chance. This time as Alexander delivers a free-kick from deep towards the back post, Carlisle nods the ball back into the six-yard box and Lonergan has to be alert as Duff attempts to head the ball home.

6 min: After that shaky start North End have played their way back into it a little and they got themselves into good areas but the final ball was just lacking.

2 min: A great chance for the Clarets straight away. It's almost a disaster for Irvine's men, Darren Carter playing the ball back towards keeper Andy Lonergan but it gets nowhere near him and Martin Paterson is clean through on goal. Lonergan races off his line to meet the striker but Paterson knocks it by him, the angle looks ok for a strike at an open goal but somehow Paterson manages to fire the ball over the bar.

1min: We're underway here at Turf Moor.

1455: Back from my stint on Whites World. The big Burnley flag is out on the pitch, the cheerleaders are pitchside, it's really bubbling up nicely. The teams are coming out of the tunnel as I write. All set for a cracking match.

1431: Steve Cowell has arrived, he's pretty breathless, but triumphant after his side won 4-1 against Burnley.

1427: So no changes to the Preston starting eleven from last Saturday but plenty of changes on the bench. The Gaffer has plenty of options to work with and it's great to see Chris Brown back involved again after a frustrating spell out of contention.

Burnley: Jensen, Duff, Carlisle, Caldwell, Alexander, Jordan, Elliott, McCann, Gudjonsson, Thompson, Paterson. Subs: Penny, Mahon, Rodriguez, Blake, Eagles.

PNE: Lonergan, Jones, St. Ledger, Mawene, Hart, Nicholson, McKenna, Carter, Sedgwick, Parkin, Mellor. Subs: C Neal, Davidson, Chaplow, Brown, Elliott.

1421: Still no team news but North End are out on the pitch. Chris Brown, Callum Davidson and Richard Chaplow are all out there, Chappy got a mixed reception shall we say.

1414: Driving through the town centre earlier there was an assortment of strange hairstyles to gander at. Mullets seem to be in fashion round these parts, not that I can talk mind, my hair went on vacation a few years back.

1412: The team sheets are due any moment. I've no inside information for you I'm afraid. All I do know is that Chris Brown was after extra tickets for his family and friends, that might be a clue but who knows?

1407: Yellows, Yellows, Yellows. That'll be the cry coming from the North End fans, the majority of them are wearing their bright yellow shirts, the also have brought with them those annoying clapper sticks.

1404: The David Fishwick Stand is filling up nicely to our right. Many have come on coaches, the brave have travelled alone, making the journey through Burnley town centre.

1403: Good afternoon and welcome to Turf Moor on a glorious sunshiney afternoon. Hopefully the football will be glorious. Stick with us for all the action.
