Meet The Living Legend

Posted on: Fri 28 Nov 2008

Fresh from receiving the Lifetime Contribution to Northwest Football prize at the Northwest Football Awards last week, Preston North End fans are being offered the chance to meet the iconic figure of Sir Tom Finney in the Deepdale Club Shop ahead of the day of celebrations set to commemorate his life next year.

Next March, the City of Preston will observe Sir Tom Finney Day, with many events taking place in the run up to the gala day and event. To help commemorate Sir Tom's life and career a fantastic magazine has been put together full of comments from the greats and some astonishing photographs.

Trevor Hemmings eloquently portrays the career and personality of Sir Tom in a flowing tribute, whilst renowned sports writer Henry Winter is full of praise for the City's favourite son.

Contributors from the footballing world include England manager Fabio Capello, Sir Alex Ferguson, Howard Wilkinson, David Pleat, FA Chief Executive Brian Barwick, Arsenal Chairman Peter Hill-Wood and PFA Chief Executive Gordon Taylor.

Preston connections writing tributes to the great man include chairman Derek Shaw, manager Alan Irvine, Craig Brown, Billy Davies, Paul Simpson, David Moyes, Sam Allardyce and close friend and former team-mate Tommy Thompson.

This superb commemorative magazine will be in stock at the North End club shop from this weekend but is available online from today, priced at £4.95 per issue.

Sir Tom has also graciously agreed to two signing sessions of the magazine. The first of those will be held on Saturday 29th November at 12 noon, the day of the Bristol City game (5.20pm kick-off). The second signing session will be at 6pm on Thursday 4th December.

On both occasions Sir Tom will be in the club shop at Deepdale, but will only sign copies of the new magazine. Due to the numbers expected Sir Tom will unfortunately not be able to personalise any copies or pose for photographs, however, he will endeavour to get through as many people as possible in the time allowed.

If you can't wait for the signing why not snap up your copy of this superb magazine at mypne.com now by clicking here.
