90+4 min: It's full-time!
90+3 min: A nervy last gasp minute of the game. A Barnsley man goes sprawling in the box but no penalty. The Tykes just keep pumping it in but they get no real joy in terms of a shot at goal. One last moment to make the heart flutter when Campbell-Ryce picks up the ball in a good position but his ball-cum-shot is blocked and the referee has the whistle in his lips before anyone else can do anything about it. It's another win for PNE!
88 min: Goal from Preston North End!!! It came from nowhere but who's complaining?! Sean St. Ledger picks the ball up deep and gets striding towards goal, there doesn't seem to be anyone interested in challenging him so he gets about 25-yards out and lets rip, the ball takes a deflection of sorts and wrong foots keeper Muller, the ball is in the back of the net.
85 min: Chaplow is named the sponsor's man of the match and it is he who launches a speculative ball into the Barnsley box, Foster looks to have dealt with it with Mellor lurking, the crowd claim a backpass as Muller collects it. Bit desperate from the crowd that one.
84 min: The ball is pumped upfield from North End, it lands at Jon Parkin's feet, he turns and hits a shot that looks a decent effort and it's only a yard or so wide.
83 min: There's a carrier bag on the pitch. It's bright orange, is that an omen from last week?
79 min: North End are trying everything they can to try and prise open the Barnsley defence, it's just not happening for them. The referee seems to be giving every aerial dual against Chris Brown so much so that he loses his rag with the ref and gets booked .Seconds later he's off, but only to be subbed, Barnsley boy Jon Parkin enters the fray.
73 min: Elliott is on for Sedgwick as Irvine shows his attacking intentions.
70 min: Bit of a midfield chess-game at the moment with neither team prepared to strike a crucial blow. Devaney does well down the left and gets a decent cross to the far post where Macken is lurking, his shot is only half hit and Lonergan saves well.
64 min: Sedgwick is the latest PNE man in the book. A late challenge on Campbell-Ryce as the winger was in full flow.
62 min: Great inter-play again down the centre of the park. This time between McKenna and Chaplow, Chaplow running onto a cute backheel and driving towards goal. Colace is in close attendance and as Chaplow goes tumblling the referee blows a whistle for a foul.
59 min: Oh my word!!! How did that not go in!! Chris Sedgwick with a spectacular left-footed volley, imagine Van Basten's famous Euro '88 goal but from the opposite angle and with Sedgwick hitting it. It beats the keeper but for whatever reason there is a Barnsley man on the line to head the ball away.
55 min: Real end-to-end action now at Deepdale. Diego Leon is found in the six-yard box and he lines up for a spectacular volley but it goes high over the bar. At the other end Mellor runs the channel and is spotted by the perfectly weighted ball into box, Mellor runs onto it, he's in the box, but he just can't get the ball from under hit feet and the angle is very tight.
54 min: Callum Davidson goes into the referee's book for a late foul on Odejayi.
52 min: This game is about just two players at the moment. Campbell-Ryce is the next to try his luck from distance, this time from the angle after fine build-up play from the Tykes, Lonergan makes a fingertip save to divert the ball onto the post, otherwise it would have been 2-1 to the Yorkshire side.
48 min: Chaplow seems determined to get himself onto the scoresheet again and he drills a really powerful effort towards goal, Muller can only parry but again he grabs it at the second attempt.
46 min: A change for North End at the break. Ross Wallace does not emerge from the tunnel so Barry Nicholson comes on as a sub. Chris Sedgwick shifting himself over to the left flank. Tactical or forced? It gives Barnsley something to think about.
1600: All sorts of things going on at the half-time break. There's a bloke down in front of us getting all his hair cut off for charity, two young 'uns are singing their hearts out for Centre Stage and the players are trying to keep themselves warm by kicking the ball at Deepdale Duck. It's a circus!
45+2 min: So it's 1-1 at the break. An eventful half which North End might feel that they should be coming into the dressing-rooms with a lead.
44 min: Chappy's just had a moment. The Barnsley fans are loving him for it, he tees up the ball for a cross in a decent position and it's one of those where his standing leg just nudges the ball out of the way just as he's about to hit the ball with his kicking leg. In golf they call that three-off-the-tee.
41 min: The Barnsley fans don't like Sheffield Wednesday either. They really are inspiring their team at the moment, Leon gets into the box and hits a volley from a tight angle, it's not far off though and those of you who saw his goal here last season will know that he is capable of goal of the season contenders.
38 min: The Barnsley fans are loud. Not sure how many of them are here but they are certainly making themselves heard.
33 min: Goal for Barnsley!!! Just as North End fans were off their seats almost celebrating a second, the Tykes go up the other end and grab an equaliser. Richard Chaplow had just drilled a fantastic volley literally inches wide of the Barnsley. One minute later and after Simon Davey's side had passed their way down the pitch, Jamal Campbell-Ryce was given time and space to pick his spot from 25-yards out and the ball crept inside Lonergan's far post.
30 min: Fantastic interplay from North End's Scottish pairing on the left-flank. Wallace plays a cheeky little backheel into the path of Davidson and the full-back surges towards goal, he hits a shot that is deflected well wide in the end.
27 min: Billy Jones has obviously been encouraged to go on surging runs and he has done one to great effect here. His heels are clipped by Barnsley's Leon in a dangerous position, about 25-yards out. Leon is booked, Wallace bends the free-kick over the wall and over the bar.
22 min: Goal for Preston North End!!! It's one for the action replays. Barnsley's Souza tries to let the ball run out of play, Mellor is in really close attendance and just as the ball looks to have gone over the line, Mellor nicks it away and is clean through but with a tight angle, the striker takes it a bit nearer goal before squaring into open space where the PNE cavalary are arrving, Chaplow is first to the ball and he slots the ball home into the empty net.
19 min: Mellor, Sedgwick and Brown combine with some neat interplay on the edge of the box and Mellor hits a shot from just short of 20 yards that takes a deflection and Muller spills the ball. Brown is the nearest to it for PNE but Muller gathers at the second attempt.
16 min: Macken's a bit nearer with his next effort. He's actually claiming Lonergan tipped it over, but the cries from the crowd of 'open your eyes linesman' are actually with reference to the fact that Macken looked well offside when he received the ball.
14 min: Two things to note. The Shankly Kop is rammed. There's plenty of North End and Barnsley in there. The other is that Macken still posseses a fine shot, even if it is one that takes the ball about 15 yards over the bar.
10 min: Barnsley hit a free-kick, deep into the North End box, Lonergan comes for it but appears to be taken out by the Barnsley man while in mid-air, the ball comes loose and Jones is forced to take evasive action, Lonergan appeals to the ref for a foul but the man in black is not interested.
8 min: We're underway here at Deepdale. You've not missed too much in the opening moments, good job really as my laptop crashed! Preston are on top though and have had a couple of promising crosses flash across the face of goal.
1457: The two teams are out and are heading towards the centre of the pitch to do the pre-match identity parade which we are subjected to these days. The teamsheet says that Barnsley are lining up in black shirts and though I am colourblind, I'm pretty certain that their shirts are red.
1455: Steve Cowell and AJ Ward are currently giving it the big one on the Whites World pre-match show. Steve's grabbing his ear phones to his his head, he looks like he's in the Band Aid video.
1454: There's a good following from Barnsley made their way across the Pennines and they're in good voice. It could be a cracking atmosphere in Deepdale.
1450: Thanks to Paul on the email for pointing out that today's game is being played at Deepdale and not Bloomfield Road! Mind you with the way we played there last week, why not play all our games there!
1447: There's a real proper Deepdale Legend out on the pitch at the moment. Tommy Thompson, scorer of 34 top-flight goals in one season for the Lilywhites, he celebrated his 80th birthday last weekend and what a way to celebrate it, with a win over the local rivals.
1443: So we've switched locations from the club offices to the Deepdale press-box and the one thing immediately noticable is that it's possibly the coldest day of the season so far!
1418: Nothing much to report from the Barnsley end. We know that Simon Whaley is ineligable, but Jon Macken will be looking to score on what surely must be his favourite ground?
1414: No changes for the Lilywhites as Irvine keeps faith with the side that did so well to defeat Blackpool.
PNE: Lonergan, Jones, St. Ledger, W Brown, Davidson, Sedgwick, McKenna (capt), Chaplow, Wallace, C Brown, Mellor. Subs: C Neal, Mawene, Nicholson, Parkin, Elliott. Barnsley: Muller, Kozluk, Odejayi, Colace, Leon, Souza, Macken, Campbell-Ryce, Mostto, Foster, Hassell. Subs: El Haimour, Van Homoet, Rigters, Devaney, Coulson.
