FA Youth Cup Sponsored By E.ON Fourth Round
Tuesday 13th January
Kick-off 7pm
Listen Live! Whites World has live coverage of tonight's clash from 7pm and the prematch broadcast starts at 6.45pm with Jonathan Breeze and PNEs youth development officer Darren Finch.
Final Score: PNE 0 Sunderland 1 (after extra time)
2136: Full report and reaction will appear on PNE.com on Wednesday.
2133: The lads are given a great reception by the large crowd who have turned out to see them in action and are all pulled together on the pitch for a word or two from Jamie and Dean before heading down the tunnel... so that's all from me, but Matt and AJ will be back from Saturday morning ready for a 12.45pm go against the Clarets - who by the way are 1-1 in their FA Cup tie as we leave you - extra time to tire their legs too?
120 minutes + 2: The lads have given their all, but there is no last chance in the dying seconds and the Academy side hold on for the right to face Arsenal or Wolves in the fifth round.
120 minutes: Two minutes are to be added on to the 120 as Sunderland look to hold the ball in the corner and North End are desperate to get it away.
118 minutes: Tom Smyth puts a glorious chance to level it up just wide, shooting past the right hand upright after Collins' cross is headed onto the spot by Dougan.
112 minutes: Madden the Black Cats skipper is booked as North End continue to press, it is wave after wave from PNEs youngsters despite numerous players now stretching off the cramp.
109 minutes: North End are leaving it all out on the pitch - giving absolutely everything.
107 minutes: Hubbock is booked for time-wasting for the visitors.
2114: The referee doesn't give them much time to rest or get a word from their coaches as he turns the teams round - North End have 15 big minutes ahead of them as the rain gets heavier at Deepdale... come on boys there's a chance yet!
105 minutes + 1: One minute added on at the end of the first half and North End turn round needing to score in the 15 minutes that remain to stay in the competition.
102 minutes: The rain is teaming down again after a period of restbite for half an hour. The visitors have a great chance to finish the game off as they break, but an effort is blasted over from 15 yards with Cudworth dragged out of position - a let off that PNE can make Sunderland pay for.
99 minutes: North End are almost on levels terms as a corner is headed down and Proctor directs it goalwards. Both centre halfs then need treatment for cramp as the extra period takes its toll.
96 minutes: Goal for Sunderland. Conor Hourihane goes through on goal and this time Jack Cudworth can't do anything to prevent an excellent finish from the Balck Cats' number ten. North End replace McGreevy with Scott Davidson before the restart.
95 minutes: Jack Cudworth again comes to the North End rescue with a fantastic second save at the feet of a Sunderland forward. From the corner he follows it by punching clear.
94 minutes: Louis Laing comes on for Adam Reed for the visitors; their final change of the game - the sub isn't half a big lad for an 18-year-old.
92 minutes: Great play from North End, Dougan pulls the ball across to Proctor whose driven shot was deflected behind for a corner. From Mayor's cross Smyth rose above everyone and headed goalwards and the whole crowd screamed for a penalty as the man on the line seemed to keep it out with his hand, but the referee didn't see it that way.
2057: North End will attack the Town End in the first period of the extra-time... just what we all wanted, eh?!
2053: Jamie Hoyland has his troops together in front of the home dug out, rousing them for 30 more minutes.
90 minutes + 3: The last action of the normal time see Jack Cudworth again make a brilliant save after a scramble in the box and we go into extra-time.
90 minutes: Into injury time and Jack Cudworth makes a brilliant save from sub O'Mahoney as the striker went through unmarked, but Cudworth stayed up and blocked impressively as the three minutes of added time started.
88 minutes: Both sides are struggling with cramp and the game is very stretched as it enters the last couple of minutes of normal time.
83 minutes: Another PNE change, George Miller is replaced by Tom Owens, the Preston youngster seemed to be suffering from severe cramp after an industrious performance in the Lilywhites midfield.
79: Adam Reed follows Noble into the book for a crunching tackle - again on Dougan - he seems to be getting some punishment from the Black Cats U18s.
77 minutes: A double change for the visitors - Liam O'Mahoney and Liam Hubbock on for Adam Slegg and Andrew Galer.
75 minutes: The first booking game for Liam Noble for a high challenge on Dougan.
74 minutes: North End escape after a corner is spilled in the box and McLaughlin gets a block in on the line.
69 minutes: Less than a quarter of the 90 left and McGreevy forces a save from Misiewicz after a long ball from Collins and then the 'strangler' is caught just offside as sub Proctor tries to send him clean through.
65 minutes: Collins returns to the action, but North End make a change with Jamie Proctor replacing Sam Hart, Neil Dougan moving to the left winger, with Proctor going up top with McGreevy. Smyth and Collins seem okay for now.
63 minutes: Sunderland hit the post. A series of slips for North End down Sunderland's left allows Blair Adams an almost free run into the box and his left foot shot careers back off the post and out for a throw, but Matt Barras the PNE youth physio is required to see to Dominic Collins firt, with Tom Smyth also seemingly limping.
60 minutes: An hour gone and the other new pro, Adam Barton fires just wide from 20 yards after a good bit of build up play involving Dougan and McGreevy. The visitors are lining up a change in front of us, maybe the fourth official's board will help us decipher the terrible numbers on the back of the Sunderland shirts.
57 minutes: The rain is coming down heavily and the ball is zipping off the lush surface as both sides look to pass it around. Rumour has it elsewhere that Burnley have lost Martin Paterson through injury in the warm up at Turf Moor... let's hope that's correct with the weekend's game now firmly on the agenda!
52 minutes: Danny Mayor again shows his class, some wonderful play as he marches through the Black Cats defence like the proverbial hot knife through butter. He finally gets into a shooting position 12 yards out, but his left foot effort is well blocked by David Brown and the Black Cats scramble it clear.
50 minutes: The management staff of Kelly, Barr and Andy Rhodes take seats in front of us and see the first action of the half as Tom Smyth comes out of the defence and slots the ball through to McGreevy. The frontman takes a touch and blasts on his right foot and the Sunderland keeper has to turn the ball behind for a corner.
46 minutes: No changes for either side at the interval. Jamie Hoyland stands hud up with shorts on, in the home dugout - brave with those shorts! We're now attacking the empty Kop.
2002: North End emerge first for the second half, everyone looking at the skies. Sunderland get us underway again in front of a crowd of 565, a really good turnout.
2000: Head groundsman Pete Ashworth is out forking! His excellent pitch will be in use again this weekend with Graham Alexander et al making the short trip from Turf Moor - your usual team will be back here then with all their irreverant chat, but for the rest of tonight you'll have to put up with me... please let there not be extra-time!!!
1958: Someone turns on the waterworks! It's raining and heavily as the second half approaches - could make the pitch quite slick for the second period. Whilst the fans clamber to keep dry Adrian Ward entertains them with a few hits from the current charts - don't ask me to name any like our normal team do... he's playing some electric dance pop thing and I have no idea what it is!
1957: On a half-time wander we discover half the first team here! Paul McKenna, Andy Lonergan, Chris Brown, Lewis Neal, Karl Hawley, Barry Nicholson, Callum Davidson, Chris Neal, Wayne Henderson, Michael Hart, Eddie Nolan... the list goes on, along with former North Ender Brian O'Neil, all watching from the stand.
45 + 1 minutes: The fourth official signals one additional minute in which the visitors win a corner. Noble takes it with an outswinger, but he curls the ball out and at the break it's goalless.
41 minutes: Blair Adams stings the gloves of Cudworth for a second time in the game, but despite the vicious effort, the PNE no.1 is up to the task and holds on at the second attempt, however, Sunderland are looking more threatening at half-time approaches.
37 minutes: George Miller concedes a free kick, just outside the box in a left hand channel. Liam Noble take it right footed, but his shot, which goes through the wall, is collected well by Jack Cudworth.
34 minutes: A PNE corner is won by Dominic Collins. Mayor delivers deep, but it is over the head of Smyth and is allowed to run out for a goal kick.
32 minutes: Up the other end and North End have the best move of the game. Mayor send McLaughlin down the right and he pulls the ball back to McGreevy. The Salford-born youngster does well in the right hand corner of the box to turn inside his defender and get a left footed shot away, but the Black Cats' stopper is up to his effort and holds the low shot.
30 minutes: The Sunderland side pass the ball around well and after a spell of sustained possession they win a corner through Galer. Cudworth can't hold the inital cross, but when the ball comes back in he claims confidently.
24 minutes: Straight up the other end and North End win a free kick 30 yards out in a left hand channel. Adam Barton delivers the ball to the back post and under pressure the Sunderland keeper punches out for a corner - only the referee gives a goal kick?!
23 minutes: A first shot of the game from the visitors with Adam Reed having a go from distance, but Jack Cudworth gets right behind it and collects cleanly.
21 minutes: Danny Mayor shows his potential with a strong run from the right. He drifts past three defenders, before firing a low left foot effort low to the keeper's left, but Misiewicz gets down well to hold it.
19 minutes: The visitors first corner is won by Adams off PNE skipper Tom Smyth, but the man with the armband heads powerfully away from the delivery.
14 minutes: Kevin Ball is very vocal on the touchline for Sunderland, but Jamie Hoyland has to be fairly content with the start his side have made.
13 minutes: Sam Hart wins a free kick on the left hand side. Mayor crosses the ball into the box and it falls to Hart 20 yards out, but his volley flashes over the corner of post and bar.
11 minutes: Neil Dougan has the first meaningful effort of the game, flicking a header from Danny Mayor's right wing cross just past right hand upright.
10 minutes: Connor McLaugjlin impressed in the last round and he has to be strong to keep out Blair Adams down the Black Cats' left, but he does well under pressure and sniffs out any threat. It is really all about the possession of the Lilywhites in the first few minutes.
7 minutes: Chairman Derek Shaw and two other directors are present, along with assistant boss Rob Kelly and other members of the coaching team - Alan Irvine at Burnley ahead of the weekend's derby. Shaw reveals that this is the first time he has seen a game from the Pavilion side since the Finney Stand was built 12 years ago!
4 minutes: North End win the first corner through Welsh *19 Sam Hart down the left. A scramble in the box ensues from the deep cross and Sunderland only just get the ball away from under the nose of Ryan McGreevy, round three's hero.
1901: North End get us underway with Neil Dougan and Ryan McGreevy starting the game.
1857: The teams come out to a bit of Coldplay and line-up in front of the fans in the Pavilion for the respect hand shake. Sunderland do one of the huddles as the teams are turned around with North End attacking the Town End in the first half.
1855: There's a good crowd turned out to see the lads in action. Of course we have two pros in our side, with Danny Mayor and Adam Barton recently signing two-year deals and they will be looking to show their ability in this one.
1852: North End's young charges will be looking to exact revenge for their predecessors who lost at the Stadium of Light in round three two years ago. That night it finished 2-0 and Chris McGrail scored both goals. The goalkeeper from that night, Andrew Murphy, is sat three yards to my left!
1850: Remember ladies and gentleman, if we have a draw at the end of the 90 minutes, we could be in for extra-time and penalties... so get ready for a long night!
1845: North End have done their warm-up under the watchful eye of messrs Hoyland and Ramsdale. North End will be aiming to make the fifth round for the first time since the 1960s! Some of them have the chance to play on the lucious Deepdale turf for the first time as well, so all in all it is set for a great night.
1820: The teams are in, North End are at full strength, with the side that defeated Reading, at the Madejski Stadium, 1-0 in the last round. PNE line-up: Cudworth, McLaughlin, Smyth (capt), Collins, Quirk; Mayor, Miller, A Barton, Hart; McGreevy, Dougan. Subs: B Proctor, C Barton, J Proctor, Davidson, Owens. Sunderland line-up: Misiewicz, Bagnall, Brown, Noble, Madden (capt), Cornforth, Slegg, Reed, Galer, Hourihane, Adams. Subs: B Wilson, N Wilson, Laing, Hubbuck, O'Mahoney. The officials are P Bankes with the whistle, G Dinsmore and M Hanley with the flags and M J Parry patroling the dugouts!
1810: A change in personel tonight with Adrian Ward taking up a role in the tannoy announcers box, playing the tunes to keep what will hopefully be a good crowd entertained before kick-off. It's Ben Rhodes in the chair of minute-by-minute reports tonight, so I'll try to keep you up to date with all the key action as it happens.
