'My Home Town' ran throughout the whole season in our award-winning matchday programme and let PNE's players describe their home to programme-reading fans. Over the course of the next two weeks we will review the best entries here on the official website...

Stephen Elliott introduced his home town of Santry, Dublin to the masses for the Reading programme, but we doubt his pre-match diet for that game included his suggestions of culinary specialities from there...

'A good old Irish stew washed down with a pint of Guinness, if you like the taste of Guinness. I like the taste of it, but there are many people who come over and don't like it.

'As for rival towns, Dublin and Cork don't like each other that much. There's a big sporting rivalry with the Gaelic football, but Cork just think they are the best in general, the best city in Ireland. Dublinpeople obviously think they have the best city.'

Back across the Irish sea for the mid-week Watford fixture's edition, central defender Neal Trotman introduced Levenshulme, Manchester to the readers of our award-winning programme and he revealed where he used to hang around and the most famous exports from that part of the world...

''There's the Caribbean food - there's a place selling it that I used to go to alot. That's actually in Longsight, just next to Levenshulme. I popped along there when I wanted some good food.

'If I can include Burnage which is only two minutes away Oasis are from there, there's also the McVities factory where they make biscuits - I completely fogot about that, you can smell the custard creams being made, which is really good."

Striker Neil Mellor was  in the 'My Home Town' hotseat for the Southampton game and the second top goalscorer informed readers of where to shop when in Liverpool...

"Liverpool's a very affluent place to be, the albert dock is a great place to go, there's obviously Anfield and the new 'Liverpool ONE' which is a new shopping complex of shops to go and see."

Picturesque Shrewsbury is where Billy Jones calls his home town and the energetic right-back was pleased to tell us about the famous people who hail from there and a rather unique phrase which is peculiar to those parts...

"Well the most famous person I'd say who everyone would know is Charles Darwin, a very clever person, like myself, coming from Shrewsbury! Also some newer exports are a couple of fellow footballers and mates Joe Hart, who plays for Man City and Dave Edwards who plays for Wolves.

'Just going off my dad's mates and mine. I know everyone loves the phrase 'alright mocka' and a phrase used by my mates and me is 'he's a monk' meaning he's a bit cool, just a bit crazy, he's a 'scarred monk' is anmother one. Don't know why the word monk,, but it just seems to have stuck around for years."

There's only one player who comes from Preston in the North End squad, so it was down to Andy Lonergan in the Barnsley programme to try and reveal any new details about his home town, and place of work. The number one told us his particular favourite food from here and one of the most famous sayings to grace these parts...

"The butter pie, having a chippy tea and all that. I've not had one for ages though. I thought about having one adfter the Blackpool game (the 3-1 win) but I thought better of it... it was shut! Or when we go on a night out, there's always a curry at Naseeb's.

"Dave McCallion, the kit man, always says 'alright cha' to me, so does Johnny Sumner, the masseur. Tha's what we alwasy say instead of just saying'alright mate'. Everyone around Preston knows what youre on about when you say it, but anyone from outside hasn't got a clue."

Next time, we travel to Dumfries, Chelmsford and more with the likes of Barry Nicholson, Liam Chilvers and other members of the first team squad.
