Rookie goalkeeper Chris Neal has joined League Two Shrewsbury Town in a permanent deal.

The 23-year-old will link up with former Preston boss Paul Simpson in the move to the Pro-Star Stadium, signing a three deal with the club for a nominal fee.

Neal progressed through the youth ranks at Deepdale earning himself a pro-contract in the summer of 2004, a contract which was extended by three years when Simpson was in charge of the Club.

The keeper was a permanent fixture on the bench for the Lilywhites last season, acting as understudy to the impressive Andy Lonergan. Neal made just one appearance for the North End first team, coming on as a sub for Gavin Ward against Ipswich in February 2005.

Speaking about the move North End Chairman Derek Shaw said: "We were happy to give Chris a better opportunity to go and play regular first team football. Chris has been with the Club since 16, progressing through the ranks but with the return of Wayne Henderson and Andy Lonergan's impressive form we didn't want to stand in Chris' way. This move gives him the opportunity of regular first team football."
