Man of the match Neal Trotman was impressed by Wigan Athletic's style as they came and took the spoils with a 4-1 pre-season win at damp Deepdale, but though he was on the losing side, he was keen to pick up on the positives as he trotted down the tunnel.
Speaking to pne.com, he explained how he thinks he's getting back towards his best - but knows there's still more to come - and thinks the side have benefitted from this pre-season programme.
"Wigan are a great passing side, being a Premiership side that passing and movement is great," he praised. "There weren't many long balls to deal with like there was against Stoke, they just moved it around really well.
"Getting match fitness was the major thing for us as well, so we're not going to dwell on the result or the performance.
"Though I got man of the match, there are others who were in contention, and I'm not yet back to my best. There are certainly still things I can work on and improve upon.
"This is my first pre-season in two years, so it's all about getting my fitness and sharpness back."
With just one game to go before the real stuff gets underway, Trots is expecting more of the same in terms of the challenge, and believe it's good news for PNE.
"I think Hibs will be a passing side at the weekend as well. The task for us is all about focussing and concentrating on that.
"This pre-season has been a very good challenge and think the manager has chosen the games very well really - they've been a well balanced test for us."
