Andy Lonergan is hoping to put Wednesday night's Carling Cup defeat behind him and return to winning ways by helping North End continue their impressive start to the season at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday.
The Lilywhites travel to newly promoted Leicester City on the weekend looking to bounce back from Wednesday's 5-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Deepdale.
Lonergan was disappointed with Wednesday nights result but is looking forward to returning to league football and is relishing the challenge the Foxes will present.
"I didn't enjoy Wednesday to be honest. We know Spurs have good players. They probably have £20 million worth of full backs for a start. They're a top team and if you give them chances, chances are that they're going to take them," he said.
"It's vital to bounce back on Saturday though. I don't think the lads are too gutted yesterday but I don't think we were really expected to beat Tottenham. We were probably slightly looking forward to Leicester but we're not doing so badly in the league so hopefully we can keep it up."
Preston's number one is aware of how tough a task travelling to Leicester poses to North End and believes that despite playing League One football last season, a trip to the Walkers stadium is an extremely tough prospect.
"It's a very tough place to go so getting a result there would be great for us. Leicester are probably one of the strongest home sides in the league so far. I'm not saying they didn't deserve to go down but a club of that size probably didn't deserve to go down to the league they did. They have come back and have proven the point that they should be in this league.
Strong home performances by Alan Irvine's men over the last couple of seasons has seen Deepdale being labelled as a fortress for North End. But Lonergan believes that there are many comparisons to draw between North End and Nigel Pearson's side.
"Leicester are probably one of the strongest home sides in the league so far. We played them in the cup and I think that they are very much like us. No real superstars as such, I know Matty Fryatt gets a lot of headlines but they're a hard working team. They are solid like us and they are one of those teams that give it all for 90 minutes and I think that's why they're doing so well."
Although under no illusions of how the challenge ahead, Lonergan understands the importance of picking up points on the road in the Championship in order to mount another serious promotion push this season.
"Of course we're looking to win but it's not going to be easy. I think if we win our home games and pick up points away we'll be fine. Towards the end of last season we did well away from home, it's hard in this league to go and especially win games away from home."
After many season's at North End, Lonergan is renound for his ability to prevent goals, but many North End fans may remember the shot stoppers goal from his own penalty area in the 2004/2005season. However, Lonergan is quick to dismiss the goal and is looking to continue to help North End remain a solid outfit in the Championship.
"I don't really like talking about it because it was a fluke. It was nice at the time but I'm more interested in saving them then doing that."
