Carter: A Good Point

Posted on: Mon 05 Oct 2009

Darren Carter believes the point earned against his former club will prove to be a good one in the long run.

The midfielder had his work cut out coming up against a Baggies unit that employed a five-man midfield but he reckons that the Lilywhites will value the point gained.

"It's a good point, we are up against a tough side, a good side, they move the ball around well and they pass the ball around well. It was a good point for us in the end," Carter said after the game.

"It was good to get back to a clean sheet, nice not to concede, we've had a couple of half chances, so have they and it could have gone either way in the end. We'll take a point after the disappointment of Tuesday night."

Roberto Di Matteo's side had lost their previous three matches and paid Preston huge respect by employing only one man up front, but that meant that PNE's midfielders had to work doubly hard to get the ball and make the game tick.

"It's tough when they have got three midfielders and you have to do a lot of running and a lot of tracking. We knew that we had to try and stop them from playing, they like to get the ball down and play and we tried to get in their faces as much as we could to stop that, because when they do get started they are obviously a dangerous team.

"It's nice to finish with a solid performance, we come back and we have got two tough away games, QPR and Sheffield Wednesday, it's a solid performance which on any other day could have been three points for us."
