Irvine: We Need To Learn The Lessons Quickly
Preston manager Alan Irvine has said that there is no time to dwell on his side's result at QPR and is looking for a positive response from his players at Hillsborough on Tuesday.
"It is good to have another game to go in to and hopefully to go back and do things right," the gaffer told PNE.Com after the game.
"If we win then great we can start moving on but we must move on. We are not going to be given a lot of time to dwell on this, there is not a lot of time at the moment to learn our lessons but we will have to learn quickly."
Irvine saw his side go into the break trailing by one goal but the Lilywhites were still instilled with optimism going into the second half. Chris Brown came agonisingly close to levelling things just after half time but soon after, Akos Buzsaky scored a penalty, a goal that was seen by the Scotsman as a crucial moment in the game.
"The second goal was a blow and we were unable to take our chances to get back into the game and that made it difficult for us.
"Goals change games there is no doubt about it. The first thirty minutes we were poor, we then finished the half quite well. The second half we started quite well and we had that chance and if we scored then it may have just changed the whole game but we didn't and that was seen as the big change in the match."
Despite their convincing performance in front of the watching Chairman Flavio Briatore, Jim Magilton's QPR had a slightly depleted squad but Irvine bares no grudges against the leagues newest big spenders.
"We certainly couldn't have coped with the injuries they had that's for sure. We know it is not a level playing field in financial terms but having said that we have just got to get on with it. There is no point in complaining about it; we just have to deal with it. We have got a squad of players who are capable of winning plenty of games in the Championship."
One key player who North End have been missing in recent weeks is captain Callum Davidson. But Irvine has said that Davidson could be available for selection at this Tuesday's game away at Sheffield Wednesday where the Lilywhites will be hoping to bounce back from this defeat.
"Well he's had a couple of training sessions but he is not quite there yet, we'll just see how he gets on over the next few days. He'll train with the boys who didn't play from the start tomorrow and he'll train again on Monday so we will assess him at that point.
"He may well be ready for Tuesday but we don't want to bring him back too early, we will bring him back when he is ready."
