Preston North End goalscorer Neil Mellor has praised his team mates after tonight's 2-1 win away to Sheffield Wednesday.
Mellor, who scored his seventh goal of the campaign tonight, believes that tonight was the best way to put Saturday's result at QPR well and truly to bed. He told pne.com:
"It was important to bounce back after the defeat on Saturday because it hurt us. The best way to respond was to win at a very difficult place and it was important for us to do well. We were back's against the wall for most of the game but we showed great character to get that result.
"Me and Parky got the goals but a lot of credit has to go to the whole defence and Lonners. They were aboslutely brilliant and without the five of them we wouldnt' have won today that's for sure."
Tonight's win came on a night when manager Alan Irvine was celebrating 100 games in charge at Preston. Mellor has praised the impact that his gaffer has had on the club during his time at Deepdale.
"It feels like he's been a lot longer than that. It shows what a difference he's made because I remember in his first season we came here and got beat 2-1 and everyone was doom and gloom thinking we'd get relegated. But he turned everyone around and built up everyone's confidence."
This game was also special for the Sheffield born striker because his dad was amongst the crowd. Mellor's dad, Ian Mellor is a former Sheffield Wednesday player and was there to watch his son score against his beloved Owls.
"I wasn't sure where he was sat and I'm not sure if he was supportiing us or Wednesday. But he's supported me throughout my career and when I'm flying he's a big Preston fan. It was nice of him to come back and he was made up that I scored and we won the game."
