Inches away from getting North End the win on Tuesday with another of his fantastic free-kicks, Ross Wallace has told PNE.com in an exclusive interview that PNE aren't far from hitting top form.
"We're looking good going forward now and the second half the other night was quite good, we had plenty of chances and we're making them so that's a good sign.
"We just need our lucky break then when we get a goal we'll be off and flying, however we just don't seem to be getting the first goal in games at the moment."
Plymouth frustrated North End last season by drawing at Deepdale and taking all three points at Home Park; a new man in charge in Paul Mariner has made a tricky test even harder, as Wallace pointed out.
"Everybody says it every week, it doesn't matter who you're playing, they're all tough games. Last year we beat Birmingham home and away so we know we can beat teams as long as we're on our game.
"Last year they got a draw so it's probably going to be as difficult again and we'll have to roll our sleeves up and get ready for them."
As for his own form, the setpiece specialist has chipped in with three goals this year and is on record as aiming for 10 goals for the campaign, so how does the Scotsman rate his own form.
"I've had a couple of chances recently to increase my tally of goals so I think my own form's very good. I'm obviously looking to improve but however well I'm playing at the moment doesn't matter, the most important thing is to get the three points."

To the right of Wallace in the last four games has been the increasingly influential partnership of Michael Tonge and Richard Chaplow, and the Dundee-born left footer said they need to be playing well with the likes of Velice Shumulikoski and Darren Carter behind them.
"The midfield have played well in the last two games, Michael Tonge and Richard Chaplow are doing well right now but there's also Shumi and Carts who can come in."
December is often the time when teams look above them to kick on for promotion or down to stave off relegation. So having faced almost all the teams so far this year, what does the number 25 think of the teams he's seen so far.
"I don't think there have been many teams that have impressed, obviously a lot of games have been hard fought games but I can't pick them out. In most games we've played we could have probably won them because we caused problems."
