Preston North End boss Darren Ferguson said his side conceded 'poor goals' after his team suffered a home defeat to Barnsley.
Ferguson admitted that Barnsley had played well on the night but pulled no punches when he spoke about his team's defending.
"No matter how you play in the game, the goals we conceded tonight were awful," Ferguson told the press after the game.
"I've seen them on the video, the third goal was onside, the fourth goal was offside, we've conceded from a set-piece and the first goal we have lost a tackle in midfield. They are poor goals and no matter how you play in a game you can't be conceding four goals, especially at home, so it's a disappointing night.
"Fair credit to Barnsley, they played very well and sometimes you have got to hold your hands up in a game of football, they thoroughly deserved the win.
"We knew that they would play, you only have to look at the type of players that he has brought in, Texeira and Rodriguez, they are good footballers, so we knew that that would be the case. We were very sloppy in possession, but it is a work in progress, everyone has got their own philosophy on how they want to play the game but tonight I can have no complaints Barnsley were the better team."
Before the game Ferguson had spoken about the need to start the game well and put in a better first half performance but the Lilywhites conceded an early goal to get off to the worst possible start.
"For whatever reason, I don't know whether it is a psychological one or whatever, we spoke about it yesterday, we spoke about it today in the teamtalk and I know it has been a pattern throughout this season, we just don't start games well.
"Even tonight we didn't start the game well, we were sloppy in possession and the lad's scored. The only real period we've had is about twenty-five minutes after Danny has scored the equaliser and we got on the front foot a little bit. The second goal is a kick in the teeth, to score just before half-time but Barnsley played very well on the night and deserved to win."
North End could take few positives from the match, though they did manage to hand a home debut to deadline day signing Keith Treacy and he showed enough to give plenty of hope for the future.
"Keith did well, he showed a couple of glimpses, he played a great ball through to Michael Hart that he should have done better with," Ferguson said.
"The lad's a good player, he will take the ball, he has got good ability, he will go both ways, he's got a change of pace, he hasn't played for six or seven weeks, we are aware of that. But he's a young one that we can work with, he's got good potential, as has Paul Coutts, so I am pleased to get them both in."
