Manager Darren Ferguson felt his side needed a little bit more quality in the final third in Saturday's goalless draw with Blackpool and he was disappointed for the supporters not to nick all three points.

"The fans were magnificent," he said. "I was as disappointed for them as I was anyone today. We have not beaten them here in the past few years so I was hoping we could win it for them, but we had some good chance.

"It was a great atmosphere, the fans kept us going right until the end, but a lot of credit goes to my lads for the performance that they gave.

"It was a good performance. I was pleased with a lot of aspects of it. In these sort of games you need a little bit of magic to win them at times, or a little bit of luck, and it didn't fall for us today.

"The lads were really disappointed in the dressing room, which is good to see and we are disappointed that we had not won."

The manager was pleased to have kept a clean sheet and for the concentration his side showed in a heated derby atmosphere: "We spoke before the game and after about the concentration levels; they have to be really good in these sort of games as it might be one mistake or bit of magic that settles it.

"Danny [Welbeck] had a great chance to win it and he just clipped it over, but there were a lot of positives. It was another clean sheet, but we are all disappointed not to have won the game.

"At times we had to dig in, as they had a little spell in the second half, but chances wise, we had the better chances."

One thing that did upset the manager was the decision not to award a penalty in the first half, when Ross Wallace's free kick appeared to be handled off the line by Baptiste: "I felt that the lad handled it on the line and the lads all ran to the referee. I asked the linesman, but he didn't really give any reason for not seeing it. I will look at that again.

"We just needed that little break and we didn't get it.

"We wanted to win today, because if we had, we would have gone above them and it would have been a bit of a springboard for the rest of the season, but four points out of six isn't bad and we now have two big games this week."

The gaffer did admit that having kept the side the same for the last two games, he may have to see how legs are before Tuesday: "We'll see how everyone is from this. A lot of lads have not played so many games this close together in a while. We'll have a look at how those are coming back from injury, like Callum, and we may have to freshen things up, but we'll wait and see."
