Preston winger Danny Mayor is currently loving life at Deepdale after coming on for his third appearance in North End's first team.
Mayor was introduced in the 58th minute for Keith Treacy and the 19-year-old produced a fine display on the left hand side for the Lilywhites, with the winger proving to be one of the standout performers in the second half.
Speaking to pne.com after the game, Mayor spoke of his experience playing in front of the Deepdale crowd again and revealed what manager Darren Ferguson told him before entering the field. Mayor said:
"The Gaffer was encouraging me by saying just get out there and show what you can do. He said when we're defending I need to come inside and he said to me to get at them, show what I can do, get some crosses in and also try to get on the end of some."
Renowned at North End for being a right winger, Mayor operated down the left hand side and displayed a very positive performance, beating players and managing to get plenty of crosses in.
"I've played there before; I played there a bit in pre season under the old manager and did alright there. I don't mind playing on the left hand side, I just try to get crosses in and I want to show what I can do.
"My first touch after coming on was quite positive, I went across the player so it gave me a lot of confidence afterwards and helped me to relax towards the end of the game.
"My first left foot cross was a bit of a swinger to be honest but I managed to win the corner. I thought I would just take a swing at it and see what happens."
Mayor and fellow substitute Matty James almost stole the headlines at the end of the game when the winger played the Manchester United youngster through on goal. Although now in the senior squad, Mayor is still drawing inspiration from his time as a North End youth team player and from the youth team's staff.
"These were things that I learned in the youth team, it was a great run by Matty and I just saw him, played the ball to him and he was unlucky not to have scored.
"I spoke to both of them and they are both very proud, I want to play well so I can repay them for all of the years that they have had with me.
"The youth setup is looking great at the moment, I had them [Jamie Hoyland and Dean Ramsdale] for two years and they have pushed me into the first team. After signing a few up this year, there maybe a few more making their first team debut next year."
Overall though, Danny loved the experience playing in front of a crowd of almost 12,000 people and appreciates the support that the fans and the manager have given him when coming on from the bench.
"I loved it, it gives you a lot of encouragement when the fans cheer you and if I did anything well, they all gave me a big cheer so I enjoyed it.
"The manager is easing me into it and at the moment, I am loving it."
