'Tom Finney has graced the footballing scene in all parts of the world to the lasting credit of his club, his town and his nationality. Football universally identifies him for his true worth and the game is the poorer for his retirement.
'For us at Deepdale, the loss is emotionally personal in that we echo the affection and sentiments of every North End supporter. It is with deep regret that we must abide by his decision to retire after years of sterling service and unrivalled example both on and off the field.'
These are the words used by the club 50 years ago to recognise the class and unparalleled commitment shown by Sir Tom Finney to Preston North End.
The sentiments were echoed in the matchday programme of Sir Tom's final professional game on Saturday 30th April against Luton Town at Deepdale.

Now, we want to hear from you and hear your memories of Sir Tom's final game.
Were you in the crowd that invaded the pitch following the game to listen to Sir Tom addressing the loyal listeners?
What were your overall memories of the day and Sir Tom's career as a whole?
Send in your thoughts along with your name and where you are from to media@pne.com and these will be published on the website throughout the week to commemorate Sir Tom's last game and career at Deepdale.
