Lonergan Named Player of the Year

Posted on: Thu 29 Apr 2010

Preston North End keeper Andy Lonergan has been named the Club's official Player of the Year sponsored by The Boulting  Group.

The Preston-born stopper has had yet another fine season between the sticks and was voted the No.1 choice of the fans following a poll to find the player of the year.

Lonergan received the award at a lavish Player of the Year Awards event in Preston North End's Great Room on Wednesday evening and it was a night of double celebration for the keeper as he was also named the Players' Player of the Year sponsored by The New Football Pools, for the second year in succession.

Neil Mellor also picked up an award on the night after he was named the Club's Community Icon of the Year sponsored by Traveline award following his work in the local community. There were also special commendations in this category for Youl Mawene for his work in schools on languages and Andy Lonergan for his work with the GEM Appeal.

The Club's Scholar of the Year was a keenly fought battle but George Miller was the winning player from a fine crop of talent.

The Goal of the Season sponsored by Rumes Nightclub was decided on the night by a text poll and this was won by Ross Wallace, for his free kick at Blackpool back in November.
