Former Preston goalkeeper John Vaughan is the final player to be confirmed in North End's Masters team.

Vaughan joined the Lilywhites from Charlton Athletic and was instrumental in the Club's third division winning side in 1996, playing 46 times in all competitions that season.

Now the goalkeeper will be joining up with former team mates Andy Fensome, Ian Bryson, Graeme Atkinson and Lee Cartwright at the Liverpool Echo on Sunday 4th July.

Speaking to pne.com, Vaughan said: "I'm looking forward to playing and seeing the lads again. Most of the lads that are playing are from the team that I played in, so it will be nice to see them all again."

The ex-West Ham United player will bring experience to the side at Masters Football after playing in the competition before with the Hammers. Vaughan understands just how different this form of the game will be and has even come up against one of the Lilywhites' opponents.

"I've played in the Masters a few times for West Ham in London back where I started. The ground is very hard; I'm not sure whether people realise just how hot it is out there. It is very intense with the heat, especially for the keepers because they have got a lot of padding and gear on.

"I remember getting to the finals after winning our regional tournament and that year Liverpool won it. That year they had all of the old experienced players, they kept the ball so well and won it quite comfortably, so I think it will be all about keeping the ball."

Vaughan is currently the goalkeeping coach at Huddersfield United and sometimes takes part in training. This bit of fitness could prove important for Vaughan who is looking forward to joining up with his former team mates once more.

"I do join in training if one of the goalkeepers is injured or are away for any reason so I do still keep my hand in, I normally suffer the day after it though.

"As long as the lads have looked after themselves then we might surprise a few people."
