Two goals from youngster Danny Mayor helped North End cruise to a 3-1 win over Chorley at Victory Park.

The win means Darren Ferguson's men have got a 100% record against the Unibond North teams after beating Bamber Bridge 6-1 on Tuesday evening.

The White's next two fixtures are against Premier League opposition with North End entertaining Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night before David Moyes' Everton travel to Deepdale the following Saturday.

But one of the biggest names on display was Chorley's new signing Matt Jansen who has accompanied new manager Gary Flitcroft to the Lancashire club. But the former Rovers ace did little to impress the masses with all the action coming at the other end of the field.

A crowd of 1,497 travelled to Chorley for the annual Jack Kirkland Trophy fixture and they went home feeling far from disappointed.

The Lilywhites got off to a flyer when Mayor put his team one up after only six minutes thanks to good work down the line from Paul Hayes.

The summer signing broke to the byline and found Mayor in acres of space inside the Chorley penalty area to tap the ball home from close range.

And before Chorley could respond North End had made it two when on the quarter-of-an-hour mark Chorley put the ball into their own net.

Paul Coutts will claim PNE's sceond but it was a clear own goal from Chorley's Russell who miss kicked his shot into the roof of his own goal. The move started when Keith Treacy tried rounding the Chorley keeper but the shot stopper got a hand to the ball and sent it in Coutts' path who sent his effort goal bound.

Before the half-time interval Hayes once again troubled the Chorley defence but this time sent a world class effort skidding off the Magpie's crossbar. The big frontman picked the ball up on the edge of the area and skillfully curled the ball with the outside of his boot onto the Chorley crossbar.

After the interval North End fans got the first glimpse of new signing Craig Morgan who replaced Paul Hayes in a tactical swap from Ferguson. And the big centre-half struck up a good partnership with Brown at the back with both giving Sean St. Ledger plenty of competition for the defensive role.

But it was Chorley who were the first to reply after the break when Whitham, who played in a central midfield role, caught the ball superbly in North End's area to send it fizzing into the bottom corner - giving the keeper no chance.

But just when some North End fans were thinking it was going to be a nervy final ten minutes Mayor popped up for his second - and what a goal it was!

The skillful wide man found himself in a central position, around 25-yards out, and bent the ball into the far corner of the net.

The brace will have delighted manager Ferguson who had given him instructions to shoot more prior to the game. The double marks Mayor's first two goals for the first string at Deepdale so lets hope the highly rated youngster can continue to find his feet with the senior squad.

In the end the Lilywhite's took home the Jack Kirkland Trophy, which was presented to Chris Brown after the game, and it served the boys a great fitness test before the big clash on Tuesday night.
