Paul Hayes is aiming to open both the goals account and the points account against Portsmouth on Saturday.
The North End striker netted twice in the Lilywhites' Carling Cup victory over Stockport last week but he is desperate open his goal account in the league.
"I have had chances in both league games to score goals and I have been disappointed but I am not worried, I know I will get chances each game and I have to make sure that next time I do get a chance I put it in the back of the net," Hayes told pne.com.
"We've been disappointed not to open our account through points and through scoring but you have those sorts of moments over the course of the season and you have to look at the positives, we've been creating chances and if we took our chances we could have won both games."
Saturday's visit of Portsmouth represents the Club's last home game for four weeks and the former Scunthorpe man is well aware of the challenge the recently relegated side will pose.
He said: "Football is about luck, but you also make your own luck and we have worked extremely hard in training this week to make sure that we perform right for Saturday.
"You look at Swansea and you look at Donny, they are two sides who are definitely going to be up there come the end of the season. We've had a tough start but Portsmouth have had trouble and a long trip up here, we are at home, we have got to make sure that our home form is right. Saturday we have got to make sure that we start well.
"They have got some very decent players, players who are on a lot of money, players who have been bought for millions of pounds. It ain't done on a piece of paper, it's about the eleven that are committed who when they go out there to cross that white line to make sure that they do well for the Club and for themselves.
"We have been working hard all through the week, we know about the style of play they play, the formation, we just have to concentrate on our own game."
Jon Parkin's return to fitness and the continual emergence of Joshua King means that there is plenty of competition in the striking department, something that Hayes is more than happy with.
"Josh is a good player, he is different to the rest of us, he's got a bit of pace, a bit of trickery. Everyone has got to realise that he is only a young kid, he's only 18, this is the first time he's been on loan and it is a tough league to get thrown in to straight away. The manager is doing the right job, not throwing him in at the deep end and making him get on with it.
"Like any club there is competition for places, Jon Parkin has come back from injury and is looking to get back in the team and there are four of us now going for two places."
