PNE will face Roberto Martinez' Wigan Athletic in the third round of the Carling Cup. The draw was made on Soccer Saturday with the Lilywhites travelling to the DW Stadium.

The tie will be played week beginning 20th September; full details will follow next Tuesday.

Speaking about the tie after North End's clash with Sheffield United, manager Darren Ferguson said:

"We will go to Wigan, we may possibly get more fans there than them because we know they don't get big crowds. It's is a beautiful arena and we will go there to give them a good game.

"Geographically it is a good tie, we will take a lot of fans there and we will go there with the chance of winning it, there is no doubt about it."
