After undergoing microdiscetomy surgery in 2008, Henderson hoped to be back to feature in Alan Irvine's squad for the 2008/09 campaign. However, his return was delayed with a number of back-related delays.

The tail-end of 2009 saw him figure again for the reserves and after three outings for them last season he headed to Grimsby to continue his rehabilitation with some first-team action.

After some excellent displays that helped to keep the Mariners in the Football League, 'Hendo' will be hoping his injury nightmare is over and that 2009/10 can give him a chance to challenge Lonners for the number one spot.

Henderson started his career at Roy Keane's former club, Cherry Orchard, but signed for Aston Villa as a 17-year-old and after spending several years in the youth ranks at Villa Park and loan spells at Wycombe and Notts County he signed for Brighton in January 2006.

Regular first team football at the Withdean Stadium got him noticed by the Irish selectors and became a regular in the squad, though he hasn't represented his country since appearing in the 4-0 friendly victory away to Denmark in August 2007 due to the onset of a back problem that forced him out of the North End side after playing just four games of the new campaign.

He had earlier ended an unhappy spell at Brighton when he signed for North End on January 31st 2007 (transfer deadline day) for an initial fee of £150,000.

He signed a three-and-a-half-year deal and immediately set about earning that number one jersey. He had to wait a few weeks before he was selected ahead of Andy Lonergan for the trip to Coventry and he kept his place for the remainder of the season and the start of the following campaign before injury hit.

Starts the 2009.10 season fit again and challenging Andrew Lonergan for the number one spot.
