Billy Jones was Paul Simpson's first summer signing, agreeing a four-year deal in June.
He made his professional debut as a 16-year-old back in October 2003, when he came on as a substitute in Crewe's 3-0 win over Derby County.
His first goal came two months later against Wigan Athletic at Gresty Road with a thunderous volley which won the 'Goal-of-the-season' award. He added that trophy to his 'Young Player-of-the-Year' award and the Sandbach Travelling Alex Supporters clubs 'Player-of-the-Year' in his first season with the club.
The Shrewsbury born player can operate in central midfield, central defence, right back or left back and has played 143 times for the Railwaymen. He also captained England at all levels up to U19's and was capped by the U20's
The youngster rejected a new deal with Crewe and was attracting the attentions of several Championship clubs but it was Preston who he felt offered him the best opportunity.
Jones has proved a very capable player at right back with solid performances throughout the season. He recovered in quick time from a double hernia operation over Christmas and was soon back in the starting line up.
