England Under 20 international goalkeeper Murphy became one of three youth team scholars to sign a professional deal with the Lilywhites in June 2007.
The youngster impressed sufficiently during his two seasons at youth level to be considered for a pro contract, having joined the club from Liverpool's Academy. He has made several appearances for the club as reserve team level, and it will only be a matter of time before he propels himself into first team contention.
He will look to aid his development at the start of the 2007/08 season by spending six months on loan with Blue Square Premier outfit Northwich Victoria, where he will remain until January 2008. He still remains very much on North End's radar, and will rightfully be considered the club's fourth choice keeper behind Wayne Henderson, Andy Lonergan and Chris Neal.
