Preston North End's reserves kept up their 100 per cent record in the totesport.com League Cup after a fine comeback and a 2-1 win at Christie Park.
Morecambe were 1-0 up at half-time after a header from skipper Jason Yates but a dominant second display saw North End's hard work result in a deserved 2-1 win.
Even though they missed a penalty early on in the second period the teenagers displayed great spirt and determination to recover from the goal deficit.
Skipper Tom Smyth led by example with a stunning scissor kick to equalise before substitute Ryan McGreevy tapped home with six minutes left to complete the comeback.
The win leaves the Lilywhites with six points after two games and they go joint top of Group 2 alongside Bradford City with two games left to play in the knockout competition.
The Lilywhites squad included four first year professionals including Smyth, Danny Mayor, Adam Barton and Phil Quirk. The game also saw a return to action for Northern Ireland youth international Conor McLaughlin, the full-back was forced to sit out Saturday's fine FA Youth Cup win over Manchester City.
North End showed their intent to attack from the off with Michael McLellan going close in the third minute after good build up play from strike partner Jamie Proctor.
However Morecambe responded well with Ricky Ball testing keeper Dominic Comrie twice with his head and his left foot in the 12th and 16th minutes.
The Shrimps' pressure paid off soon after on 18 minutes when captain Jason Yates leaped above the North End defence to direct Mark Duffy's cross into the PNE net.
The young Lilywhites gradually reasserted themselves against their more experienced opponents though and the right wing was where much of North End's effective play originated from.
At the half's midway point right winger Mayor skipped past two defenders before seeing a shot from 25 yards blocked and his fellow first year professional Barton saw an effort from a similar distance go a couple of feet wide as PNE looked to find a way back into the game.
Their best chance to do just that in the opening period came just after the half hour mark when Michael McLellan released Danny Mayor on the right edge of the penalty area, the Leyland-born wingman found Proctor in the box however the striker saw his shot cleared off the line.
Mayor went close again moments later with a freekick however North End were unable to find a way back and they had to be wary of the dangerous Wayne Curtis who had a couple of shots saved before the first half came to an end.
North End started the second half eager to turn around the one goal deficit and substitute Scott Davidson epitomised that determination with a full-blooded challenge on the Morecambe skipper in the first minute, a tackle which warranted a yellow card from the ref. The Northern Irishman then got on the end of a Danny Mayor cross minutes after, a sign of PNE's plans for the half.
Morecambe quickly reminded PNE of their prowess though and Gavin Clark came closest to extending their lead in the early stages, heading over from six yards when it seemed easier to hit the target.
Davidson was involved again on 62 minutes, stepping up to take a penalty after Jamie Proctor had been taken down but he saw his shot palmed away by Davies in the Morecambe goal.
North End didn't give up though and indeed drew strength from the impact their attacks were having and after Danny Mayor's shot was steered wide in the 75th minute Tom Smyth took advantage to equalise from the resulting corner.
Mayor's deep setpiece fell to the skipper and after seeing his inital toe poke cleared the ball fall to the former striker again and he displayed all the poise of a frontman to scissor kick spectacularly into the corner.
PNE weren't finished there and energy coursed through the team in a bid to complete the turnaround.
And after going through on 81 minutes and not quite finding a man in the box to score after hard work hassling the Morecambe defence Ryan McGreevy got the winner for PNE three minutes later.
Sheer persistence from Jamie Proctor allowed the striker to release youth team skipper Miller and the midfielder's shot rebounded to McGreevy for him to tap home easily.
Morecambe hit the post late on but the North End defence cleared away and held on for their second win under David Unsworth.
