Preston North End's Women are still searching for their first points of the season after falling to defeat at newly promoted Leicester City.
A Lauren Impey header in the 54th minute of the game was the difference between the two teams and PNE must now wait two weeks until their next fixture, at home to Aston Villa on September 7th.
North End were always going to be up against it, the Foxes had won 6-0 in their previous outing against Rotherham United and could have taken the lead as early as the fourth minute when they saw a shot flash just over the bar. Simon Gerrard's side were under pressure from the start and they did well to repel three further attacks from a buoyant Leicester outfit.
At the other end PNE did manage to craft an opening when Laura Walker played Danielle Ayers through but the angle was always too tight to trouble the home keeper.
But it was the home side that did the majority of the pressing and North End did well to get in to the dressing rooms at half-time with the scores level at 0-0.
The Leicester goal was not long in coming though and on 54 minutes they grabbed what proved to be the winner, a corner from the left finding the head of Foxes defender Lauren Impey who powered the ball home.
Preston keeper Horrocks was the busiest player on the pitch and she did her best to keep the scoreline respectable, in the 70th minute of the game the stopper kept out another Foxes attack when she pulled off an amazing save in a one-on-one with the Leicester striker.
PNE were given a glimmer of hope with a quarter of an hour to go when Bailey forced a good save from the Leicester keeper, but the chance was in vain as the linesman had flagged for offside. A further assualt on the Leicester goal brought no reward and Preston headed back up north still searching for their first points.
