Preston's youth team progressed to the second round of the Youth Alliance Cup with a 2-1 victory away at Carlisle United.

Jamie Hoyland's side took advantage of their dominant possession in the first half thanks to a Ryan Hall goal.

Matt Dudley, who was called up from the under 16's, then doubled North End's lead in the 70th minute and put the tie almost out of sight of the home side.

Carlisle did grab a conciliation from the penalty spot in the closing stages but the Lilywhites saw out the rest of the game and booked their place in the second round of the Youth Alliance Cup.
