Match Report: PNE Women 4 Blackpool Ladies 2

24 August 2022

Madison has only recently joined the Lilywhites, having previously represented Blackburn Community Sports Club last season.

The striker has looked in good form already, though, scoring in pre-season and the opening day of the season against Accrington Stanley last weekend.

However, yesterday was her best performance with the team yet, causing problems for Blackpool very early on and scoring a hat-trick within the first 15 minutes.

After the game, she said: “It was just unbelievable. I didn’t expect to score in this game, I thought it would be a tough game, but I am just glad I did score.”

“The first one, the ‘keeper was coming out and I thought, ‘It’s now or never,’ and I lobbed her. One of the goals, I did two little Maradona turns and curled it into the top corner.

“I can’t even put it into words. I was just buzzing and seeing the girls around me, how happy they were, it was good.”

With the Blackpool game already an early high point during her time with PNE, Madison is enjoying her time with the club.

It is a somewhat familiar environment to her, being from Preston and having previously represented PNE Women at junior level, where her relationship with the first team’s co-managers David Rawcliffe and Nigel Greenwood began.

“I get on with everyone, everyone is nice, everyone involves me and encourages me, they’ve built my confidence since coming in. It’s been good and I’m enjoying it.”

North End will now be looking forward to facing Morecambe away next Wednesday 31st August.
