Premier League Primary Stars Lessons Inspire Dance Star Emily

2 February 2023

Royal Cross Primary School for Deaf Children pupil, Emily, has developed a passion for dance and grown in confidence thanks to Preston North End Community and Education Trust’s [PNECET] Premier League Primary Stars delivery.

As a result of PNECET’s delivery at Royal Cross, Lancashire’s school for deaf children, Emily has gone onto join a dance club outside of school hours where she has further improved her dancing ability and met new friends.

Utilising the framework of the National Curriculum and the Premier League Primary Stars programme, the Trust’s delivery to primary schools in Preston aims to develop the skills and ambitions of girls and boys aged five to 11-years-old.

PNECET’s delivery is both varied and inclusive with its coaches focused on developing the child’s physical literacy, enhancing their learning and teaching them relevant life skills and behaviours.

“PNECET has provided equal opportunities through working with deaf children at Royal Cross Primary School,” explained Olivia Parkinson, Schools Provision Co-ordinator at PNECET.

“We have given Emily the opportunity to learn and take part in dance, which is something she’s never had before.”

Eilish Pymer, Schools Provision Officer at PNECET, said: “Through my delivery at Royal Cross, this has given me the opportunity to build a relationship with Emily. Upon the first week’s session, the teacher and I acknowledged a passion with Emily and discussed the potential of her finding a club outside of school.”

“This love of dance has grown each week and has enabled her to access dance lessons outside of school, enabling her to continue her love and passion for dance.”

Emily said: “I have lots of fun dancing, joining in with my friends and being in the club.”

Speaking on the positive impact that PNECET has had, Emily’s teacher at Royal Cross explained: “With PNECET coming into the school to deliver dance classes, Emily has gained a lot of confidence which has led to her joining a club and making new friends.

“Emily has always been interested in dancing, but she had never been to a dance class. With Eilish coming in, it’s meant that Emily has been able to take part in different workshops in the school, including dance.”
