Two sides who first met in the inaugural Football League season go head-to head for the 101st time in the competition when the Lilywhites take on the Baggies in Monday’s live Sky Sports Championship fixture.

The visitors have changed head coach since our last clash, with Slaven Bilić having taken over in the summer and hit the ground running, with the Baggies topping the Championship tree ahead of the weekend’s fixtures.

They come into the game eight unbeaten, with four straight wins, but North End will be looking to continue their impressive home form, with manager Alex Neil hopeful of being able to recall a number of the players who missed the midweek trip to Hull City.

This is the first of four game featuring PNE on the Sky Sports cameras in December, with the FA Cup draw being made the same night, in the run up to kick-off, so it begins one of the busiest periods of the season.

Fans are reminded that everyone is being asked to bring their scarf and their voice, with the fan led campaign also seeing the return of the famous ‘wolf’ flag from the 1990s unveiled and surfed across the Alan Kelly Town End, so don’t miss out on what should be a great night under the floodlights at Deepdale.

A controversial injury-time penalty gave West Bromwich Albion the points at Deepdale.

Albion substitute Kyle Edwards dived in the penalty area, with Declan Rudd having pulled out of a challenge on the winger, but referee Oliver Langford pointed to the spot, with Charlie Austin converting.

It was a hard blow to take for the Lilywhites, who were without Darnell Fisher, Patrick Bauer, Ben Davies and Paul Gallagher, Andrew Hughes, Tom Clarke and Josh Ginnelly, plus long-term absentee Louis Moult.

In fact it was even more frustrating considering a strong shout of their own for a penalty for a foul Sean Maguire by Nathan Ferguson mid-way through the second half had been waved away.

It was a game where, with the absentees, Alex Neil’s side frustrated the side who returned to the top of the Championship with the win and in fact, other than the spot kick that should never been, the Baggies didn’t have a single shot on target in the second half.

Slaven Bilić’s men dominated possession before the interval, but despite a good spell of pressure in the last 20 minutes of the first half, their best chance was a 20-yard shot by Ferguson that Rudd tipped over.

And in fact, the best chance of the opening period was North End’s, when Maguire left Ferguson in a spin and drove from the left to the byline; he had Tom Barkhuizen 15 yards as an option, but chose to power in a shot forcing former PNE loanee Sam Johnstone into a save.

After the break the real chances fell to PNE. Jayden Stockley was brought down just over 25 yards out by Semi Ajayi and from a clever free kick Brad Potts saw a shot blocked for what should have been a corner, only for another odd decision by the match official.

But the most intensive spell of pressure came just after the hour mark as Johnstone first denied former team-mate Daniel Johnson, with a finger-tip save around the post from DJ’s effort from the edge of the ‘D’ and then from the first corner he made another superb stop to deny skipper Alan Browne at the back post.

Another corner followed and this time the Irishman put over a deep inswinger that Johnstone missed, but Stockley was unable to get his header under the bar and it flashed just over.

But controversy was to end the game, as Edwards went tumbling to the floor just before the clock ticked into injury-time, and follow sub Austin stepped up to convert, denying the home side what would have been a fully deserved point.

For those still turning up and buying on the day, purchases can be made in person at both the Sir Tom Finney ticket office and also use the Invincibles Pavilion ticket office, which can be used to buy tickets for any part of the ground, not just the Pavilion. The Sir Tom Finney ticket office is open from 9am on a matchday and the Invincibles Pavilion ticket office is open from 6pm.

Paper and print at home tickets can be purchased online at MyPNE.Com 24/7 right up until two hours before kick-off, with collections available from the Sir Tom Finney Stand collections windows, to the left of the ticket office. The online service is now fully responsive on both mobile and tablet. Or, if you have a member card, you can buy right up until kick-off on MyPNE.Com and load your ticket straight to your card!

For Baggies fans, tickets will be available on the night and there will be no increases for matchday purchases and tickets will be available for visiting supporters from the away ticket office next to the Bill Shankly Kop on Lowthorpe Road, with cash and card payments accepted, this will open from 6.30pm.

For home fans travelling to the game, the Leyland shuttle bus will be in operation, pick up points and times are as follows: 6.05pm, Leyland Tesco; 6.15pm, Railway Pub Leyland; 6.25pm, Beam and Brycg Pub Bamber Bridge; arrive Deepdale, 6.55pm. Tickets are £3 for a single or £4 return.
