Keane: Few Home Truths Told

22 August 2012

North End's number two Keith Keane talks to PNE.Com following Tuesday night's game...

Right back Keith Keane told PNE.Com after Tuesday’s night’s narrow 1-0 defeat at Shrewsbury that a few home truths have been shared in the dressing room and they determined to get it right before the weekend.
“We might have dominated the game but we are not happy with how we played at all. We didn’t play anywhere near as good enough as we can,” explained the versatile defender.
“So where it looked like we might have dominated the game we still feel like we underperformed and we need to quickly put it behind us and put it right against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.
“We have been told a few home truths about what we have done wrong and the way to do it is to take it on board and correct them for Saturday and make sure you do them right.
“On our part it was bad organisation to concede the goal like we did but we have played two games now and we haven’t scored so we have to be better in front of goal.
“We need to create more chances and when we get chances we need to be clinical in front of goal but at the other end we need to be more organised too.
“There are a few home truths that have been said and we are going to make sure that we put them right before Saturday.”
Keane, who was not willing to take any excuse for North End’s first defeat of the season, knows the squad is more than capable of producing performances that the fans can be proud of.
He concluded: “Outside the Club people might use it as an excuse that we are a new squad but we are defiantly not using that as an excuse.
“We have shown in pre-season that we are more than capable of playing together and putting in good performances against strong opposition.
“We have to learn quickly as a squad and learn from today’s game and put the things that we have done wrong, right for Saturday.
