Preston North End’s John Welsh and Bailey Wright have been nominated for Northwest Football Awards, both of which will be decided with the help of an online poll.

Based on the 2012/13 season, the duo have been placed on shortlists for the north west League One Player of the Year and Rising Star awards respectively.

Since joining North End from fellow League One club Tranmere Rovers in May 2012, Welsh has gone onto establish himself as a senior member of the PNE squad – eventually acquiring the role of captain.

The all-action midfielder made 42 appearances for Preston in the 2012/13 season and was rewarded for his outstanding performances with the Club’s Player of the Year gong, voted for by North End fans.

Meanwhile, Bailey Wright had a breakthrough campaign for the Lilywhites, appearing in more games than in each of the previous two seasons combined.

The 21-year-old is a product of the PNE academy, a true success story, bearing a slight resemblance in playing style to former Australian centre back, and North End legend, Joe Martson.

The defender’s performances in Lilywhite caught the attention of the Club’s fans, persuading them to crown him Young Player of the Year for the 2012/13 campaign.

So, if you’d like to see both John and Bailey gain regional recognition for their outstanding seasons, go to http://www.northwestfootballawards.com/voting2013 and vote for both players now!

The poll closes at 5pm on Friday 4th October 2013, when judges will be presented with the top three names from each category and make their final decision on the winners.
