National Citizen Service:Update

13 August 2013

On the 5th of August, the participants went to Mitton Fold Hotel to participate in a five day residential, wit the aim of improving their life skills and much more.

Throughout the week, there was a range of activities, including a guest lecture from motivational guru, Ross McWilliam, who did a workshop on self confidence and self esteem and also helped to develop interview skills, which the young people really took to and made the most of the experience.

The participants also planned and designed their own sports day, the idea of this was to give them a sense of responsibility, and also to prepare them for their upcoming social action project, which will take place over the next two weeks.

On top of all this, they did a ‘Mitton Fold’s Got Talent’ competition, where there were dancers, singers and a variety of other acts, who fought against each other to win the prize.

One of the biggest challenges of the week was a six mile hike through the countryside, where they had to overcome a range of challenges and obstacles.

Speaking of the scheme, NCS Co-ordinator, Jonny Ellithorn, said: “This is a great project which the young people involved have really embraced and are gaining the life skills needed to progress themselves in the future and are having fun whilst doing it.”

If you haven’t had the chance to get involved this time round, keep checking for updates on the next opportunity coming up in the Autumn.
