Sky Bet Preview

13 August 2013

Attention this week turns to International friendlies and the big Premier League kick off and with Sky Bet you can place your bets on both.

England take on Scotland at Wembley on Wednesday evening for the first time since their European Championship Play-Off encounter almost 14 years ago.

The Three Lions were victorious on aggregate against the old enemy and the tie was widely considered well and truly over when Paul Scholes’ brace gave Kevin Keegan’s side a 2-0 lead going into the second leg at Wembley.

However, the Tartan Army shocked the world when they produced a 1-0 win at the Twin Towers and almost grabbed an equaliser to send the tie into extra time.

And Scotland are 8/1 to repeat their Wembley heroics tomorrow night, with odds of 16/1 for Gordon Strachan’s men to emerge with the exact same scoreline.

Roy Hodgson’s England side are odds-on favourites for the exhibition match, however, at 4/11 to win the game.

Controversy has surrounded Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney all summer, as his relationship with the Red Devils continues to be scrutinised.

But the 27-year-old is still favourite at 7/2 to put all of the distractions behind him and bag the opening goal on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes is favourite to get the first goal from Scotland’s ranks, with odds at 11/1 for him to put away the opener.

Other internationals on offer include the Republic of Ireland’s trip across the Irish Sea to face Wales.

Giovanni Trappattoni’s side are 6/4 to beat their home nation counterparts, while Wales are 8/5 to hold out for a win at home.

All of the attention will, no doubt, be on Tottenham’s Gareth Bale with speculation of a move to Real Madrid for the Welsh wizard still rife.

However, as with Rooney, the bookies are backing Bale to chalk his name onto the scoreboard and Sky Bet have odds of 9/2 for him to work his magic and bag the first goal.

Following the internationals, there’s the small matter of the Premier League season starting on Saturday 17th.

Champions Manchester United face a tough task as David Moyes starts his reign as Red Devils boss with an away trip to Swansea.

Sky Bet have odds of 10/11 on the Old Trafford side to come away from the Liberty Stadium with a win, while the Swans are 16/5 to put a downer on Moyes’ big day.

Elsewhere, Arsenal kick off their 2013/14 campaign with a home fixture against Paul lambert’s Aston Villa side.

The Gunners are 2/5 to start the season with a victory, while Villa are 7/1 to cause an upset at the Emirates.
