We Need To Do Our Jobs

8 August 2013

North End goalkeeper Declan Rudd is hopeful that he and his teammates can stick to their game plan with three points being the end result on Saturday.

Much like the Lilywhites, Rotherham United has made a positive start to the new season, but Rudd believes the three points is obtainable if the players do their jobs to the full effect.

Speaking exclusively to PNE.Com, Rudd said: “It is going to be a tough game. They obviously had a very good result on Tuesday night as well in the cup which they will be buzzing off.

“Obviously they are playing at home where I think it is a very tight pitch and they like to get a good atmosphere in the ground and I think it will be a tough game, but we have just got to go there and treat it like any other game and do our jobs and hopefully we can come away with what we aim to get and to carry on from the last two games.

“They are obviously fresh to the league and they have got the hunger and desire to make it happen in this league so it is going to be a tough game, any away game in this league is tough, anyone can beat anyone so we are going to have to be on our game and we are going to have to do things right and hopefully if we do that it will go our way.”

In many ways, the beginning of the 2013/14 campaign has replicated PNE’s end to the 2012/13 one, with goals against coming at a premium rate and the Norwich City loanee is pleased to see that form being maintained.

He continued: “We are there to keep the ball out of the net, that’s what we are there to do.

The lads in front of me and in defence have been unbelievable and I have had hardly anything to do because they have just kept everything away from the goal so full credit to them, they have been absolutely brilliant once again like they were last season when I was here.

“It was always the aim to start off where we finished last season, we finished strong and we was tight at the back and we were scoring a few goals.

“That was how we wanted to start this season, as well and with the new lads that have come in, they have got straight into it and carried on the way we finished off, so it has been a very good start.

“The lads are feeling as good as they can be at the minute, we have had two good performances back-to-back and it is good to keep the games coming and the momentum going because it is important in this league to try and have a good run of results because it is a tight league and once you start to drop off it is tough to get back up.

“It is very important for us to keep going with picking up points and not dropping too many, Saturday is going to be tough but let’s just hope we can keep going.”
