Yeovil Town 3 PNE 1

12 February 2013

Three second half goals from the Glovers gave the home side their seventh consecutive win.

North End took the lead on the half hour mark, Chris Beardsley scoring his third goal of the season with a low shot on the turn in the right hand corner of the box.

The Glovers equaliser came 17 minutes from the end when James Hayter, the former Doncaster man, swept home from the edge of the six yard box from Paddy Madden's right wing ball.

And six minutes later substitute Nathan Ralph slammed home into the top left hand corner from close range to turn the game on its head.

Paddy Madden then made it 17 goals for the season in injury time to round off a comeback fore the home side with a low shot into the bottom left hand corner from 12 yards out in the 95th minute.

The game up until the opening goal had been one mostly dominated by set pieces and good defending.

James Hayter had the home side’s first effort of the night, on five minutes, Chris Robertson blocking the forward’s shot after he had cut inside and unleashed a right-footed effort.

Robertson again was on hand after 18 minutes, this time to get his head in the way as Paddy Madden, the League One top scorer, shot from 15 yards out after cutting in from a right hand channel.

A spell of Yeovil pressure around the mid-point in the half ended when Joe Edwards saw an effort from the edge of the box blocked by North End full back Paul Connolly.

But the first real shot on target brought the opening goal on the 30 minute mark. Manager Graham Westley had just swapped the wingers over and Lee Holmes picked up the ball on the right and turned it into the feet of Chris Beardsley.

The No.20 turned the ball past defender Dan Burn with the outside of his left foot and spun, before hitting a first time right-footed shot low past Marek Stech into the bottom left hand corner, much to the delight of his team-mates and the travelling support.

This brought confidence to the veins of the Lilywhites with Jeffrey Monakana shooting low to Stech’s left four minutes later.

The home side did have the ball in the net on 36 minutes, through Madden, but he was offside as he flicked Burn’s header past Rudd, who had looked very assured between the sticks for North End.

The home side started the second half well, but the best chance in the opening 15 minutes of the half came on the counter attack for North End, as Holmes went down the left and delivered a great ball for Beardsley, who had got across Burn and made good connection with a header, but Stech dived full stretch to his left to palm the ball away.

The equaliser came on 73 minutes with a break down the right hand side. Substitute Lewis Young fed Paddy Madden down the right hand side of the box and he squared it to the edge of the six yard box where the ball was swept home with James Hayter claiming it.

Whilst there may have been doubt about who scored the first for Yeovil, their second - six minutes later - was no doubt, after substitute Nathan Ralph latched onto a bobbling ball in the six yard box and slammed home past Declan Rudd.

Six minutes of stoppage time was added on and in the first minute came the Lilywhites' first corner. Keith Keane, returning to the side for the first time since November, swung the ball in, but Cummins' header was just wide.

But as North End pushed forward Paddy Madden got in on the break and fired low into the bottom left hand corner to end any hopes of a point for the Lilywhites.
