Rudd Joins On Loan

29 January 2013

Preston North End have taken Norwich City’s England U21 goalkeeper Declan Rudd on loan for the remainder of the 2012/13 season.

The 22-year-old custodian has signed on standard loan from Carrow Road on Tuesday and is eligible to go straight into the squad for the clash with Crawley Town at the Broadfield Stadium.

Born in Diss, Rudd came through the youth ranks with the Canaries, making his debut in September 2009, away to Gillingham, as a substitute following the sending off of now Celtic keeper Fraser Forster.

His full debut came three days later at Carrow Road in a 4–0 win against Leyton Orient. He made his first appearance in the Premier League in August 2011, after England’s John Ruddy was sent off in a 3–1 defeat to Chelsea.

Due to Ruddy's subsequent suspension, Rudd made his full Premier League debut a week later at home to West Bromwich Albion, saving a penalty from Peter Odemwingie.

He takes the number 23 shirt vacated by previous goalkeeper Steve Simonsen, whose contract was cancelled by mutual consent earlier this month.
