Preston North End are delighted to welcome Adrian Lamb as the new fitness coach here at Deepdale.
Lamb has joined Simon Grayson’s backroom staff and has already started working with the players on maximising their fitness ready the new season.
He was brought in with an impressive CV, having worked at Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers, and most recently Aston Villa. He is also a Sports Studies graduate of Northumbria University.
Lamb will have to put the players through their paces and make sure they are at the peak of their fitness for the first game of the new season. With a promotion push in mind, it will be vital that the players are ready and Adrian will play a huge part in making sure this happens.
Having worked in the Premier League, he has the experience and knowledge to get the best out of each individual at the highest level and hopefully this will show in the team’s performances throughout the new campaign.
Manager Simon Grayson is happy to have him on the team and spoke exclusively to PNE Player about the appointment.
“I thought it was important that we needed somebody in to fill that role, there was not anybody here last year, so I decided that we needed somebody.
“He has had the experience of the Premier League and dealing with top professionals, he is very knowledgeable in his work and he is obviously here looking to help us along with getting the players fit and keeping them fit throughout the season.”
He continues: “It is a vital role, as coaches we can do a certain amount of aspects with the players but he is specialised in that role and has got great experience and I am delighted to welcome him on board.”
Grayson believes that there is a lot more to fitness than just the physical exercise and believes that Lamb is the best person for the job.
“It is a very specialised field and we have to make sure that we have the players as fit as possible but it is not just getting the players fit, it is the nutrition and the diet, the recovery, and the ice baths and all that side to it.
“So it is not just warming them up and doing the running with them any day, it is all about after training and injury prevention, so it plays a massive part in a hard, long season for any football club.
“With his experience and his contacts in this area as well, it is great to have him on board.”
