As the Preston North End first team prepare to kick off their League One campaign against Wolves this weekend, we take a look at some of the top odds ahead of the game.
The last time the sides met in competitive action, PNE took all three points from Molineux in a 3-1 win, thanks to a brace from Stephen Elliot and a Sean St Ledger strike.
And North End are 20/1 to repeat that scoreline, while Wolves are 22/1 to reverse the result and reap revenge at Deepdale.
New Lilywhites signing Kevin Davies scored his last goal against Saturday’s opponents in Bolton Wanderers’ 3-2 win at Molineux last year, and you can get odds of 6/1 on the Preston No. 9 being the first goal scorer against Kenny Jackett’s new side, in his first competitive game for North End.
Returning Wolves forward Leigh Griffiths is also 6/1 to find an opener, having bagged a massive 28 strikes while on loan at Hibernian last season.
An outside bet could be Bailey Wright to get the first goal. At 40/1 the 21-year-old Australian defender is surely worth a punt, especially after showing his heading ability from corners against Bamber Bridge in the 6-0 pre-season win at Irongate.
Wolves forward Jake Cassidy tormented the North End defence, and scored, in a 1-1 draw against Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park last season and he is 13/2 to grab the first goal in Saturday’s clash – as are Iain Hume and Joe Garner.
PNE’s top scorer of 2012/13, midfielder Nicky Wroe, will also pose a threat to the Wolves back four and is 10/1 to score the opener this weekend, in the first game of the 2013/14 season.
