Chris Humphrey can’t wait for PNE’s first game of the 2013/14 League One season, against Wolverhampton Wanderers this Saturday.
The Lilywhites welcome Kenny Jackett’s side to Deepdale to mark the start of competitive action and, having grown up a West Brom fan, Humphrey is desperate to beat one of Albion’s biggest rivals in his first official Preston match.
“I’m a Baggies fan so we don’t like the Wolves,” Humphrey told PNE Player.
“I’m really looking forward to that and it’s up to us now in training to try and prove ourselves and try and get in that squad for next Saturday.
“It’s a massive game and hopefully we can do well in it.”
The 25-year-old signed for North End earlier this summer and admits this weekend’s clash was the match he was most looking forward to when the fixtures were first announced in June.
“That’s one I’ve been looking forward to as soon as I saw them go down and I came here, it’s the one I’ve been looking forward to the most,” he added.
“And Walsall as well, because I’m from Walsall, so I know I’ll have a few friends going there but the first game is Wolves so this week is big preparation for that.”
PNE have an array of wingers to choose from, including Lee Holmes, Will Hayhurst, Jeffrey Monakana and ‘Humph’ himself – and the Jamaican insists that competition within the squad is positive.
“Loads of options and the thing about being at Motherwell was that the squad was very small and you didn’t have much competition for your spot,” he said.
“But here there’s me, Holmesy, Jeff and Will and those three are fantastic players so it’s always good when you have that competition and that makes you work hard to stay in the team because it makes you try your best.
“The wingers we have here are fantastic and I can’t wait until the season.”
