Women and Girls Football

3 July 2013

Here at Preston North End, we feel it is vitally important to aid participation and development in women's football, and so we run a variety of programmes to help achieve these goals.

Below are the projects we offer, which are primarily run by our Women and Girls Football Development Officer and UEFA B License coach, Mel Brown.

Female Football Development Programme

The Female Football Development programme is funded by the EFL, with the aim to increase participation of women and girls playing football in the local area.

The programme mainly targets age groups from 14-years-old through to open age groups, consisting of those over 16.

Mel Brown, Women and Girls Football Development Officer at Preston North End, delivers free football sessions in schools and colleges in the area to help achieve the project’s targets.

Mel also provides links with local football teams by mentoring their coaches and directs players towards various clubs that suit their needs and abilities.

‘Turn Up And Play’ Futsal Session

This futsal session is open to all women who have an interest in the sport. The sessions run on Friday evenings from 6-7pm at St Augustine’s Leisure Centre.

It is just £2 per session and you are welcome to come alone, with a friend, or even bring your own team along with you.

Girls Development Centre

Every Friday night, our specialised coaches host sessions at PlayFootball for girls aged seven to 14-years-old. We welcome girls of all abilities to come down, make new friends and progress your football skills! The first session runs from 5.30pm to 6.30pm for seven to ten-year-olds whilst the second sessions is for 11 to 14-year-olds from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
