First Half Of The Season Examined

19 June 2013

PNE’s fixtures for the 2013/14 League One season have been announced and there are a number of juicy games scheduled for Simon Grayson’s squad in the first half of the campaign.

As was revealed yesterday, the Lilywhites will host Wolverhampton Wanderers in their opening game, at Deepdale on Saturday 3rd August, as the Football League mark their 125th anniversary in the first round of fixtures.

North End follow that up with an away trip to Rotherham United and the New York Stadium on the 10th in what will be the Club’s first visit to the Millers’ new ground.

Games at home to Milton Keynes Dons, then away to both Coventry City and Walsall, cap off an exhilarating first month of the season in which PNE will hope for a blistering start.

The players will be pleased to see that there are no midweek league fixtures until 22nd October when last year’s Capital One Cup finalists, Bradford City, make their way to Deepdale on a Tuesday evening.

But before that, on Saturday 14th September, Preston welcome back former manager Graham Westley and his Stevenage side, as the 45-year-old returns to try and haunt his old Club.

PNE’s first trip to the capital isn’t until November when they travel to Leyton Orient’s Matchroom Stadium to take on last year’s seventh placed side on Saturday 16th.

As always, Christmas is the busiest time of the season, and the 2013/14 edition of fixtures shows no let up as North End face Crawley Town, Brentford, Carlisle United and Shrewsbury Town within the space of just 15 days.

Boxing Day’s trip up the M6 to Brunton Park will headline the festive period as the Lilywhites look to go one better than last year and secure a win against Greg Abbott’s men.
