Second Half Of The Season Examined

19 June 2013

North End will start 2014 with a big home game against newly promoted Port Vale on New Years Day.

It will be the first time in 20 years that the two sides face each other in the league.

This will be followed up by another home game to our first away opponents of the season, Rotherham on 4th January, who were beaten 2-0 in their last visit to Deepdale back in 2005.

The first away game of 2014 will be a trip to Molineux on 11th January to face Wolves in the return fixture of the first game of the season. The Lilywhites won 3-1 in this fixture back in 2009 and Simon Grayson’s side will be hoping to do the same again this term.

On Saturday 18th January, PNE will play host to Coventry City before two consecutive away trips to MK Dons on Saturday 25th and then to League Two Play-Off final winners Bradford City the following week.

February will mark a big fixture for the Preston side who will face Notts County at home, in what will be a poignant game in the 125 year anniversary season for the Football League, with both sides being founding members.

The rest of February sees two away games and a home game for the Lilywhites who will face Tranmere Rovers away on the 5th, followed by a visit from Leyton Orient on the 15th before a trip to the Weston Homes Community Stadium to face Colchester United.

March will see a packed month for PNE with a total of seven fixtures, the 1st March will see a visit from the Walsall before the team travel a short distance to Boundary Park to face Oldham Athletic on the 8th.

North End’s only mid-week away fixture in the second half of the season will see a trip to face ex PNE manager Graham Westley’s Stevenage side at the Lamex Stadium on Tuesday 11th March.

The next two games will see a home tie to Sheffield United at Deepdale on 15th March, followed by an away trip to Swindon Town on the 22nd March.

Recently relegated Peterborough will then visit Deepdale on 25th March, before the final game of March is played at home to Crawley Town.

We will then see another busy month in April with five games to be played. The first sees the Lilywhites face Bristol City who were relegated from the championship last season in a big game at Deepdale on the 5th April.

The following week will see a visit of the Cumbrians as Carlisle United travel to Deepdale on 12th April.

The Easter period is later this year with an away trip to Brentford on Easter Saturday which is 19th April, before two home games that could prove vital in North End’s promotion push this season.

The first is against Shrewsbury Town on Easter Monday on 21st April, with the final home game of the season to be played on Saturday 26th April against newly promoted Gillingham.

North End will play their final game of the 2013/14 season against Crewe Alexandra at the Alexandra Stadium on the 3rd of May.
