Soccer Schools A Success

5 June 2013

PNE’s Soccer Schools at Springfields, and in Germany, were a tremendous success, with the Club now looking forward to future coaching sessions this summer.

30 children took part daily and were given the chance to experience a week in the life of a professional footballer, receiving coaching at the famous Springfields training ground!

The course ran over four days, Tuesday to Friday, and included master classes based around certain positions on the pitch, ensuring players could transfer what they’d learned into matches at school or with their local club.

Tuesday began with the ‘Shot Stoppers’ challenge, helping improve reaction time and positioning, with all-important tips on how to become the next Alan Kelly.

Then, Wednesday marked a day for defenders as players were coached on how to be the best possible defensive unit, with particular emphasis on teamwork.

Thursday saw teaching progress and attention turned to the centre of the park, as passing technique and awareness on the pitch became the main focus of the ‘Midfield Maestro’ session.

North End’s top scorer for the 2012/13 season, Nicky Wroe, even made a surprise appearance, lending his knowledge on how to be a top-class midfielder for Preston North End!

Friday’s ‘Netbuster Challenge’ ensured players left with a well-rounded skill-set, as they were taught how to time their run and finish like a pro!

Meanwhile, in Germany, 60 children took part daily and were coached basic technique from tackling to passing, heading to shooting, saving to crossing - at North End’s international Soccer School.
